Yesterday, 2020 got a whole lot better! For years I've been here on CSR reading and learning all I could from so many experts. At the top of that list are two that I thought maybe I would be blessed to meet someday, but assumed it was unlikely - Capt Rust Higgins and Frank Webster. Both have contributed so much to the community over the years. Frank, the undisputed king of diesel know how. He loves his CATs and wouldn't trade his 450 for anything. And Rusty, the brand ambassador extraordinaire for Sea Ray for so many years. THE captain of the East Coast.
As I, and a new captain I was training, were prepping a local tour boat for the afternoon tours, a beautiful Sundancer 60 with a CSR burgee cruised past us into Ego Alley and docked on the seawall. Naturally, I had to walk down to investigate and say hello. As I approached the boat and greeted the men in the cockpit, there was a flash of recognition as Capt Rusty greeted me back. We were able to talk for a few minutes and it was as if he'd known me for years. Every bit the gentleman and friend that all have ever said. Turns out he's captaining the 60 footer on an annual multi-week cruise since the owner's captain couldn't travel. Right about now he should be cruising out of Annapolis enroute to Norfolk.
Thank you Rusty for taking the time to talk. I look forward to talking and seeing you again soon.
