Well, I finally splashed my 230 this evening around 5:30. The local SR dealer replaced the bellows, changed fluids and etc last fall. The boat fires up first turn of the key and then I check the engine compartment for leaks and odd noises. No problems. So, I pick up the wife and kids at the house. Then head to one of two local waterfront restaurants we normally frequent. I pull up to the restaurant dock port to and secure the lines to the cleats. As I'm walking up the dock, one of the dock hands asks is my back straight? So I look over my shoulder, say yes and continue walking. Then he says, "no". Your boat's back. I then ask are you refering to the transom or swim platform? He says yes and the asks if I can dock with my back towards the dock so the two pontoons can pull in. I then say I would be happy to do so. However, my swim platform would slide under the dock. He says shouldn't be a problem. I repsond by saying, makes sense, not a problem, we'll simply idle over to your competitor's restaurant. As I idle by one of the canbotes, Ms. canbote leans over the railing nearly capsizing her fine piece of machinery while yelling something offensive. My wife looks at me and says don't say anything. I tell her don't worry I'll be nice. I simply respond to Ms. canbote and say, "I'm sorry couldn't quite hear you as your voice was echoing off of the aluminum of your fine bote. Enjoy your triple cheeseburger." So off we go to Dockside where there are only a couple of canbotes docked. Mmmm....looks much better. Enjoyed a good meal on deck, the kids played with another couples children and no pesky canbotes to deal with. Most importantly, the back of my boat is still straight :).

Wesley,

Your videos just about nail it.

Paul, you are right. However, it won't be by a canbote.

Hmm. I bet Ms. Canbote is "driving" home with her headlights on, bumpers skipping off of the water with at least two lines, oops I mean ropes within striking distance of the CB's propeller.

You act like canboats are the only one's that ride around with their "BUMPERS" out :smt043

I know someone else that referred to them as "bumpers" recently.

And, by the way, if you think blow boaters are unhappy with the "25 ton 14 knot pass", you should see the can botes! They bury their bow into the wave, do an endo while dumping the grill, keg, and other stuff off the front, and then the they right themselves, the prop grabs, and they run it ALL over. It's great fun to watch.

I won't put anyone in jepardy on purpose, but if I'm approaching at 1500 rpm (as fast as I can run and have the wake dissapate before it reaches land in our lagoon) and I see a canbote coming with white water off his bow, I don't slow down. Gary is right......watching bubba and the land whales on the canbote scramble to keep Col. Sanders dry after they bury their bow is right amusing.

Charley.......a 5 gal bucket full of baseball sized rocks gives me complete canbote immunity. Just let one bunch of them see your rocks and word spreads quickly. Soon no one will ask the crazy guy with the rocks to move over for a canbote.

That was Matt... Gary is being quite so he doesn't get kicked off the board.

Charley I was really looking forward to seeing your canbot rocket launcher on the Charleston run last year. There was quite a few of them to use it on in the 1st section.

It's truly a shame that 99% of the canboters give the 1% a bad name :). Lake Murray could use several 45'-60' Sea Rays cruising around at max. wake speed, in order to test the seaworthiness of the canbotes. Frank brings up a great point regarding Colonel Sanders. I'm sure Ms. Canbote and her friend's CB were both loaded with KFC. If I owned a waterfront restaurant, nothing would make me happier than to see a few CBs loaded to the gills with KFC and beer soaking up dock footage. I'm sure they bought a some fuel from the marina's fuel dock upon departure. Surely they wouldn't have refueled using their pre-fueled 5 gallon gas cans.........

You're right Chuck. I hope the TN lakes aren't so infested. If they are can we use your boat as a canbote fender?

We don't beer can botes around here. Then today, when I pull into the marina to start sanding Just Ducky's bottom, there at the boat dealer squats... a yellow can boat in all of it's tin glory. Danged neighborhood is going down the tubes, it is. Too bad the 330 throws such a small wake.

Best regards,
Frank

We have a can-house boat around here. It's two stories high and built on top of 55-gallon drums. They put a boat in the carport area to drive it around. It has decks, patios, rooms... I undestand that there's a toilet seat with a bucket under it for facilities. It has disjointed tin roofs... It's like a huge, redneck shack on cans.

One of the guys I know has a saying "If you can't run with the big dogs, stay on the porch."

...or at least get of the the big dog's way.

I don't mess with the 50' Vikings. The 330 would lose every time.

Best regards,
Frank C.

Well... I stand corrected. It appears they modified the bottom of the pontoons so they will actually plane... Most pontoon boats are essentially displacement hull speed boats, but they are long and skinny hulls so they their displacement speed is higher than one would think...
