Can legalizing marijuana solve the economic crisis for the long term?

No reason it should not be legalized. Tax it as well. It will happen some day, I just hope I live long enough to see it, and burn a big fat one at the marina without getting in any trouble. I always have told my kids, "There is only one thing wrong with smoking marijuana, it's illegal" Hopefully that will change someday.

It will solve the financial crisis. It'll make it more of a financial discussion, for a while, then it'll be a discussion about food, then, "what were we talkin' about?" Then, "who cares?"

I personally think its ridiculous that you want to smoke dope. I can't see anything positive about. Everyone I know that smokes is non productive and a drain on society as well as health care. I will agree with most that alcohol has is it's issues as well. I think smokers and alcoholics should have no access to health care. Any benefit ever gained medicinally by THC is significantly overshadowed by it's negitive impact on so many other areas. Legalize it? Unreal.

 I dont know, I have the completely opposite experience with it. Everyone I know who smokes is the same person whether they smoke or not. I can cite more very successful people in my life and through life than I can the losers.

And frankly, those losers would be so regardless of using or not.

And I notice you lump people who smoke pot in the same category as alcoholics...:smt009

people have been doing one form of drug or another in every corner of the earth in every culture I know of. No amount of laws or social disgrace has changed that fact. USA's "war on drugs" has spent (read WASTED" billions upon billions of our dollars and the end result has been more and better and cheaper drugs on our streets. If we had spent those billion on education in the elemtary schools we would have seen some benifits of the dollars spent. Instead all we have done is make drug lords rich beyond imagine. Legalize drugs and tax them and put the profits to good use. You are never going to stop people from wanting drugs . I don't do drugs.

Just another pot smoking Obama supporter!

 I dont "support" Obama per se, but will wait until the 4 year term before giving a final "good job/bad job". For now, lets just say I have given the same consideration (both dem and rep) to any president we have ever had regardless of if I wanted him to win or not.

After 4 years, I can most certainly make that call.

I dont know if it ever will change, but certainly worth a frank and open discussion. Im for legalizing it, but not so much for myself as I can get it anytime I want, and am fine with not being able to walk around with something in my hand, but also because when you read the history of why it was made illegal (see hemp vs. timber) it was a silly thing. As well, it is no worse than what is already legal in the form of 100 proof alcohol.

Put it this way: I can drink a whole bottle of absolute and probably die, if not have a great trip to an emergency room. If I smoked a whole bag of pot, Id probably eat a gallon of Bryers mint chocolate chip and fall asleep.

That's quite a statement... but why do you suggest doing things half a$$. Lets deny any sick person access to health care. Sure would take the burden off society:huh:.

You're right, people who possess pot are criminals.

Alcoholics are criminals? :smt101

And to keep you up to speed, thus why the discussion. Should it be a criminal offense? Why should we continue to criminalize something that a great many people feel should be legalized? Do we really want to use Jeff Specoli as the "realistic" view of someone who smokes or do we want to be realistic and see that it isnt any different than having a couple of beers?

Funny, I dont feel like a criminal.

PS...Ahhhhhnold came out yesterday urging for the legalization of this. More and more senators and other officials have begun to speak out as well.

Hmmmm...reading quite a bunch of articles on this subject, the history of how it became illegal (google "why is marijuana illegal", and you can get the story), the stats, the uses for hemp, etc...

In short, the fact that this isnt a legal entity is because of outdated theories and the effects of sheep-like public reactions to propaganda by people with vested interests.

Sarcasm, "you're right" meaning they shouldn't be lumped.

Teaching your children to fight to get a law changed that some feel is unjust, is fine. I applaud it. Teaching them that you should ignore that law simply because you disagree with it is wrong. Always will be.
