Ok, I checked the parts manual and it told me part# 807653T (65amps) is the correct alternator for my engine. Now that I go to replace the old one, the old one says part# 807652 with is a 55 amp alternator. Would it be okay to use the 65 amp instead of the 55 amp?? I have no idea!!!
Thanks...

Larger is OK

In relation to this post. Is a larger alternator when possible always an easy logical upgrade?
I have a 7.4 and have always thought a larger output alt, but never knew if it would cause other troubles. Thanks

Some of us use 100 amp alternators.

Depending on the differences in age between the two alternators, the 65 one will create a little more drag than the 55, but it probably won't be noticeable. A modern alternator though is much more efficient than some of the older alternators though, so it could be a draw or even less drag. I doubt 10 years would make a difference though.
