In our planning for our trip to New York I am looking for a good place to stop for lunch and fuel somewhere between Cape May and the Hudson. I get real nervous when the gas gauge gets down to a quarter of a tank so I am thinking somewhere about 4 hours north of Cape May. Easy access from the ocean would be a plus.

I have always first filled up at Utches in Cape May... They usually have the best prices... As you head north I would recommend ducking in the Manasquan inlet an fuel up and eat. From Cape May Inlet to Manasquan is about 90 miles, so figure about 100 miles between fuel stops... If you leave a 0730 from Cape May, you should arrive at Manasquan at lunch time. There are a lot of restaurants in Point Pleasant Beach and Brielle... Our favorite is Reds Lobster Pot... You should be able to dock in one of the fishing boat slips at Reds... The Lobster Shanty could be your back up... If you really want to have a good time you could cut through the Barnegat bay and stay the night Ron and the gang:thumbsup:...

Bill,
As Rod suggests I would choose this option as well. It's a nice run from Cape May to Manasquan inlet. Very easy to get in and out after the lunch stop. Good choice of restaurants. Brielle Yacht Club has fuel, but be sure to check if their pumpout is functioning, just in case if you'll need it. Last year we were caught by surprise when we pulled up for pumpout and it wasn't working while their website shows as everything was functional.

Here's the site to Red Lobster Pot http://redslobsterpot.com/
Here's the link to Sand Bar http://www.sandbarrestaurant.com/
Here's the links to Lobster Shanty http://www.pointpleasantlobstershanty.com/

All 3 of these are in the same area, so you choose which you like better and can accomodate docage for your caravan.

After this stop you're only about 35 or so miles to the Liberty Landing. So, within 1.5-2hrs of smooth run you'll be arriving to your final destination.

Thanks Rod and Alex, I knew there would be a couple of New Jersey folk willing to help out.

I just purchased the Navionics card reader from Raymarine so as soon as it comes in I will start plotting our course with an alternate in case of weather. As soon as we can all agree as to which marina we will be staying in Cape May we will make reservations for all of them. Most of our group had already made vacation plans so we are staying with the original date of leaving July 9th. I really leaned on them to as I wanted to slip in the CSR Atlantic City weekend.
