My paddle wheel speed that is displayed on my SmartCraft display on my 06' 320 Sundancer is off by almost half. It could be a little dirty, or just not correctly calibrated. I only trust my GPS Raymarine C80 SOG. Is there a way to either get the SmartCraft to show the GPS SOG speed or can I calibrate the Smartcraft to the GPS?

The problem is that all the other SmartCraft Speed related calculations like trip, distance, GPH, etc. are off because I am not using the actual speed. :smt021

If I want to clean the paddle while the boat is in the water, where would I find it and how can I clean it?

I guess it would also be useful to only use one depth meter right? I am seeing a slight difference between the Raymarine DSM30 connected sounder and the SmartCraft one. Not sure if that is possible.

I see the depth differences between my C80, ST60, and SC5000 too. It may be a matter of having different offsets set, but I haven't dug deeply enough to figure it out yet.

I was talking to Merccruiser today about a similar issue. Here is the number if you want to call them 405 743-6566. Then get Tech Support.

I got a few tips from a mechanic:

First thing to check is to be certain the smartcraft gauge is reading in statute measurements. If in nautical miles or metric you will get a much different reading. Simple fix. 1.2 mile = 1 nautical miles.

If this is set correctly, there will be a through hull sensor inside the bilge. This sensor is usually forward of the motors, but could be on either side. The sensor will have threads and a sticker that indicates it is made by AIRMAR. If there is a paddle wheel on the sensor, then there will be a collar on top of this sensor that will allow to loosen a "plug" that slides inside this fitting. At the bottom of this "plug is the paddle wheel. NOTE: if the boat is in the water, you will need the blank "plug" to stop water from entering the boat. This blank plug should be attached to this sensor, or be with the boat documents from the factory.

The C80 can be interfaced to the Smartcraft gauges to provide SOG data. This is a hard wire interface that will need to be done by someone familiar with NMEA wiring. A cable may be necessary to transfer the data from the C80 to the Smartcraft computer.

In the calibrations menu, drop the speed transition from paddle wheel to GPS to 5 mph. Default is 25 mph, which is ridiculous.

This did the trick. Not sure what this setting does, but now my speed matches pretty much my GPS SOG.

Thanks!!!
