Brunswick selling off Sea Ray brand

Good luck maintaining a 4 or 5 engine boat with a ridiculous fuel burn of 150 to 200 gph. Plus look at the Formula 500. The back 8 feet of the boat is motor support and engs. So really it's functionally a 42 ft boat.
I see no advantage over a real boat like a convertible/sedan bridge/spotfish/motor yacht and can come up with many minuses. Sure it's faster than a proper boat with twin diesels but who the hell is going to long range cruise a boat like the Formula with its astronomical fuel burn and lack of range due to tank size and burn. To me those are stupid and obnoxious day boats to go hang out at the island.
Again I find them stupid. I speak from a vantage of doing long range cruising and month long trips and actually going farther than 20 miles from my home port.

I didn't believe those fuel numbers above until I actually saw them in the boattest article. Wow. I thought folks around here frowned upon my gas hog of a 400DA. Those outboards are wicked thirsty. Less fuel efficient than a 50,000lbs 50 foot Ocean sport fish with monster diesels.

Visually...hmm....not sure this is my bag. Not sure at all...

Bowrider coastal/offshore, Nope. $80k outboards, Nope. Touchscreen controls in marine/salt environment, Nope. Dark faded gelcoat in 5 years, Nope. Nothing about the new styles interest me. Nothing.

I went on the Formula 38 SSC with triple 350's at the St Pete boat show last year and LOVED it. Yes, it depends on what you want out of a boat. For me I want more than a day boat but less than a long-term cruiser. Something big enough to take some water and sleep on occasionally that still has some get up and go but also have the draft to pull up to a sandbar. I loved the platform which was huge and I liked the leaning post at it's aft edge way more than I expected. It was like the Swiss Army Knife of cruisers.

If I had the $900K sitting around I'd have already ordered it in the color I want. BTW, with Formula you don't get the same fading as you do with dark color gelcoats as they're painted with high-end Imron paint and clearcoat. You can look at older Formulas and many still have a beautiful shine.

But that's the glory of having choices. To each their own.

Imron. Love it, about time builders stepped up. Not to date myself but I had a red gelcoat 268 badly faded, did awlgrip. Sold to friend. Saw recently. 15 years after i did the awlgrip it looks like the day i did it, no fade. Good to know
There is a Formula on a rack behind a house by me. Some amazing blue that changes colors as you go past. Looked it up, 32’ $700k. Out of my league. But it sure is pretty.

I always liked Formulas. All way back to the 29 & 34 PC. Always thought their interiors were a lil to gauche. 50’s retro colors and materials. Never did see then or now why they think they can charge a 25% premium over SR.

To each their own, sure, but for $1m I can find much better boats. Nobody is going to overnight on that thing. Oh and a 51in draft is deeper than my Tiara without prop pockets so I can get closer to the island than that.
Then let's look at the numbers. It takes 3500rpm to get it over the hump and that equals 86gph. At an avg of 4.25 a gal that is 365.50 dollars per hour just in fuel cost for minimum cruise speed. Then the maintenance.......think about it there is 48 spark plugs alone.......are you serious?
These boats are stupid! I can take my 17ft scout and do the same thing. My Tiara only burns about 18gph at 20kts and I have more cabin space than that 42ft 50ft boat.

Not everything in the picture hurts my eyes…those big outboards hanging off the back sure do though!

I agree with outboards on a 50' boat being stupid, I want my big oil burners and shafts but Brunswick owns mercury and not a company that makes marine diesels so if we expect to see Sea Ray with a boat over 40' that is not a bow rider then expect a Yacht with outboards.

These boats are stupid!
Well, while a performance boater for life (nothing beats a Quad Cary!)- Nothing like getting to the destination 4 hours before everyone else, today's quad outboard center console, go fasts are WAY over the top, particularly in price and not a wise purchase. I love watching them on Youtube try to tackle Haulover and loose - Bikini's and cushions flyin!

I went to see what a new Sundancer would cost and prices are gone from the SR site. You can build your own, but then -- contact us for pricing.

I built the 2021 outboard 370 earlier this year when it was released. It was just shy of $1.0M by the time you added all the cool features you'd want....like a generator and floor mats :)

I agree with Kevin. my favorite part of the boat is the swim platform, just Image just imagine spend more than 1.3 for a boat that does not even have a swim platform. ;)
