I have a 1987 SeaRay 340EC with The old style seacocks (tapered rubber bushing in a brass housing). Unfortunately the handle from one of my seacocks has broken free from the rubber bushing meaning I can NO longer close or open that seacock. Obviously I plan to replace it, what I can't seem to figure out is if the seacock actually threads on to the thru hull fitting? If the seacock indeed threads on to the thru hull fitting I should be able to replace the seacock without pulling the boat as long as I'm quick.

Can anyone tell me if the old style seacocks thread onto the thru hull fittings?

Your in luck. I am in the process of rebuilding an 88 300 of which I have removed 2 of the 4 seacock valves. This board was a huge help to me.

First of all the Valve's are Made by Groco. Their website is very helpful as is their customer service.
Secondly, Yes the valve is threaded on the intake scoop. If you can get a wrench on the bottom side of the valve, there should be some flat areas for the wrench to get a hold of. It is very tight at first.
The inside diameter of one of your big seacock's should be 1.25". The Air Conditioner is .75, in case you need to have some stoppers handy.
(That is size for the 300 anyway. The 340 should be the same)

Now the bad part.
You should check with Groco first before you remove and discuss replacement parts if thats the way your going to go.

That particular vintage valve and internal rubber ball part is NLA.

Good Luck!

If you have to change out the complete through-hull fitting, simply take your boat to your local beach in shallow water. Have a small 7 oz. tub of "Stay Afloat" emergency sealant handy. Prepare your new thru-hull fitting for installation, remove the damaged one (let it fall into the water and retrieve it after) and drive the emergency sealant into the hole in the hull. Go under the boat and push the new fitting up through the plugged hole and have somebody inside the boat tighten up the nut for the new fitting and the job is done with minimal water intrusion and without any hefty lift out fees from your marina.:thumbsup:
