Boating Season up North

I will be out by the end of the month here. The good days after that are hit and miss and its nice to do the winterizing and cleaning her up when the weather is decent.

+1 to that. Same here for me as well. Wax goes on much better when the temp is above 60 degrees!

Scott, it won't work with an electric oven.

So it sounds like most come out in October.

So is this required by the insurance company regardless or is this an option you chose to save on the liability part of the insurance coverage when you are not using the boat?

It is not my choice, it is a standard clause in Ontario.

Usually it's early to mid october, but thanks to Irene and all of the debris in the water its been over since the end of August!

Boy i'm i glad i moved to florida, we were just complaning that the water temp is dropping down to the low 80's

Question for you guys thinking about winter: Should I fill up up the gas tanks? Last year I did not and regretted it because gas prices went up...

Oh, BTW, Ron if you read this in the next hour or so, say hi to my wife and daughter....

Will do Rod! Should be here in an hour or so.

I have made out pretty well most years buying gas "futures" and storing FULL. Prices seem to drop at the end of the summer and before the winter heating season starts. That is, of course, barring any blip in the crude market (e.g. hurricanes, drilling moratoriums or Arab sheik that is diagonosed with IBS).

Well, personally I store with full tanks, but not because of fuel hedging, more like condensation prevention. But if you can prevent condensation and save a few bucks, go for it. With Sir Chowderhead (All he wants is love...) in Washington, it's unlikely fuel prices will drop any time soon.

I thought Sir Chowderhead was from the Windy City, where there aren't any clams... Maybe be better name is Sir Changealot...

Mid September, like tonight frost warning displayed. (Sept. 15)

Well, I am really ticked at the moment....the weather man said it would be sunny and in the sixties today, so I left my home around 10 am on my bike and rode to New Buffalo and back, 75.35 miles, and froze my a$$ off. In the sixties!?!?!?! HorseCRAP!! It never got above the mid fifties, and then to top it off, it started to mist. No SUN......MIST!!!! Fargin' Weather Man, step into my office! Your Freakin Fired!

Actually, I'm still kind of peeved with the motorist I got in an altercation with in Michigan City, who seemed to take offense that I was on the road. But the adrenaline rush from nearly coming to fisticuffs made me forget about the cold for a while.....thank god for hot showers.

WOW 73 miles good for you. I have 15 exercise one day and I get to walk for 30 minutes the next (1.4 miles), I hate rehab. It was in the 40's tonight when we left at 7:35 and it did not warm up, came home home and turned the gas on in the house and light the pilot. My wife said it got down to 67 in the house last night. Can't wait till I get to Florida in 2 weeks for a short holiday.

Scott, hit him with your trombone.

I drove to work and back, in my car, yesterday. 54 miles Baby!

Mine stays in until early/mid Nov. Not ideal boating conditions then, but with our storage, last in first out! I'm on the boat as we speak! Little chilly this morning, but the heat works great and bottom line, a chilly morning on the boat beats a chilly morning at home anytime!! ;)

Message from my storage friend.

"Your boat is scheduled to be pulled, bottom washed, and in the building by tomorrow afternoon. Rain delayed it from being completed today."

Unloaded everything yesterday in the 59 degree rain. The lake is turning over and basically unusable. So, its off to Columbus for the next few weekends hoping to find a quarterback in the field sometime. You have to be faithful in good times and bad, right?

Yep, I'm proud to say i boat in saltwater and even though i have to change out my manifolds/riser quicker than most I get to boat year round. Although the maintenance is more is saltwater it is nice to know I can boat in January or February! Sorry, guys, I had to do it since saltwater boats get a bad rap most times in this forum.

Since I am on a river that is 28 miles from salt water, the slips are only from May 1 to Oct 16. If we are lucky and do not get heavy spring flooding, Maybe in the water mid April. This year, the last 3 weeks were flooded bad and even had to evacuate my boat to the coast after Irene struck Connecticut for the week. This year, sometime in the beginning of October. Not alot of mechanical work this winter, but I need to pull the bow rails, caulk under them, repair one other leak and a new head liner.
