Hello to All, Help!

Some time ago I was reading a thread where one of the replies to a poster had a form letter to send to people that invited this boater to events in the summer.

It went something like this:

Dear ____________:

While I am pleased that you invited me to your____________ event. However, I am busy on my boat. bla bla bla

I have searched this forum and can't find it. I want to use it and have some fun with it.

So if any of you fellow CSR members know where I might find this I would really be thankful.

Regards,

Gary

Here it is::

"Dear ______________

Please accept my sincere apologies for not being able to attend your ____________. As you know, my passion is boating and spending as much time aboard as we can. The Midwest’s short boating season and the high costs associated with the boat to sit idle (unused for a weekend) requires me to say no to all non boating events planned during this boating season. Please don’t take this personally, but I hope you understand my formal summer weekend policy. If you would like to move your special event after November 15th and before April 15th, I would be happy to attend. I hope you respect my position, as I respect yours selecting a date that ruins everyone’s summer weekend plans which everyone is dreading going to anyways.

Knowing that you will not change the date to accomodate my schedule, please find enclosed a check as a gift."

Used it a few times and even once or twice seroiusly

I will use that but edit the date to go out to January 3rd as to accomodate deer season also

I plan on using the letter, and making a couple of changes... Midwest to Northeast... and NO check/gift... Since we Ski every week end in the winter, I will also need a letter for 1 Dec to 15 Apr... I gives me 15 days for non-boating or skiing events, which should be plenty..

It's a bit tougher here on the South-Left Coast where we boat year-round. I might have to change it something like, "As you know we prefer to be on our boat with our friends and family 99.9% of our free time. Since you are neither I guess you may as well permanently remove us from your guest list." Whadya think? Too blunt?

Reminds me of a friend that didn't attend his sisters wedding because he was in a softball tournament. I said "but it's your sister", he said "I already went to two of her weddings and I only got a couple more years of ball playing left so I'll skip this one and go to the next".:smt043

WET PAINTdont forget to mention you cannot possibly commit to being on time if there may or may not be enough wind.(sorry i had to,and i really need a boat ride)glen

I guess I'd have to ask them to reschedule their event to between December 15th and January 1st. We usually participate in the Christmas Boat Parade in mid-December and ALWAYS have our annual New Year's Day cruise. OH, and forget about the check. I used it for fuel.

Perfect!

ya sadly we talk about using this letter a little too much. just had a niece born last July 4th, we congratulated and then instantly dove into the discussion with the parents that we likely will not ever be attending any sort of birthday partys given that is a prime boating holiday.
in my defense I see it as their fault as they were induced early (sadly just because they wanted a july 4th baby) so really it's their fault we won't be attending.
and don't even get me started on my cousin deciding to set his wedding date the same day as a CSR Rendezvous!!! its almost as if my family is trying to ruin my summer!!!
