Came home from work a couple days ago and there was a Boating Magazine on the kitchen table. I asked my wife where it came from, she said fund raiser at school for our youngest son. I have not seen a Boating Magazine in years and couldn't help but notice how thin this one was. So, I looked at one I have in the bathroom at my office, it is from October 2001 and has 172 pages, this new one has 98 pages. But wait, the new one is marked as November / Decemeber 2011 and is the swimsuit issue to boot!!! So in 10 years time it is almost half the size and instead of monthly it is bi-monthly.............why even bother.

Anybody subscribe to magazines anymore, what about the newspaper? Why would you?

GO RAVENS!!

John

The only magazine I subscribe to is lakeland boating. I get yachting and show yachts free.

I get some free ones just for signing up at the boat shows. I enjoy looking at them but no way would I pay for them. As a side note, I also get Science Illustrated free. I may consider paying for that.

Most magazines run the same boring template every year. To voracious readers they offer little new content. I wonder if the reason sites like this are so popular is the instant response and interaction over magazines. I do like the magazines I get from BoatUS, but I'm still new to boating. Boating Magazine is published 10 times a year. MM

I know it has a lot to do with sailing but Good Old Boat is great if you are into DIY of your boat. Except for the articles on sails and rigging most articles are equally applicable to powerboats.

For down here I have southern Boating. Boat show price $10.00 per year for 3 years. Not bad

I also get Good Old Boat Magazine as mentioned. It is bi-monthly, but is full of DIY "How To's" and I love it. Its almost like Bob Vila of the "This Old House" TV show discovered he liked boats and started a magazine.

I get Power & Motoryacht so I can see Gary's friends new boats.
