Boating and Firearms

Gary, you don't really fire off a 12ga for a shark or ray do you? In all seriousness, why not just cut the line if its that bad/big?

Depends on how expensive the lure is they have in their mouth.

After someone broke into our home and beat the sh*t out of my wife and then raped her :smt013. I carry a gun 24/7 after that. So if you come on my boat or in my house without me knowing you !!... YOUR F'in A$$ IS DEAD .... End of story !!. My wife died after that ordeal. :smt089
Please tell us your are not serious? If so I don't know how to express my sorrow for you.

Jack

Interesting reading on the .pdf they have about cotton mouths... I know first hand how aggressive they are. They would come right up on the beach with the kids playing in the sand and get all cranky. A few years ago, my brother-in-law chopped the head off of one that was about 6' long (and fat) and the darn thing was still trying to bite for about 5 minutes even though it had no body... nice white mouth.. big fangs..

I now have a shot gun... and I've killed a few others in the years since that event. They are really aggressive in May/June around here. I don't care if it's a "water snake" or "water moccasin"... I hate snakes. The riot gun chops them in half.

I own one of these and they are great. I have seldom used it in other than the 410 shot shell mode. Very effective and way smaller than a riot gun. I am just not saying that I carry one on my boat..

This reviewer does not have much love of cotton mouth/ Water mocassins either.

The Judge is a great gun. Small relatively speaking and a big spread.

I like this guy...

Taurus has introduced a handgun that may just be the ideal trail gun for those of us who live, work, and play among timber rattlers, cottonmouths, copperheads, and diamondbacks. It should also prove just as useful for our Western friends who must contend with the sidewinder and the Western version of the diamondback. I don’t know which I hate more, as all are ornery when cornered, but the cottonmouth is the only snake that I have ever had personally come after me. Most snakes will slither off if they can, except for maybe the copperhead, who just lies there quietly grinning and waiting for your approach. At least the rattlers will sound off and give you a chance to soil yourself just before he sinks those fangs into your flesh. However, in my experience, the cottonmouth is downright mean.

There are those in our society who look with disdain and loathing upon those of us who kill poisonous snakes - mostly they live in nice apartments or suburban subdivisions. If they are really well-heeled they call them "estates". However, those of us who live in the Southern woods (forests, for you snake-loving high society types), for about eight months out of the year, we must keep a careful eye out for poisonous snakes as we walk amongst the chiggers, ticks, and poison oak.

I do not kill non-poisonous snakes such as black snakes and chicken snakes, for they provide a service and do no harm, unless you happen to step on one at night, at which point they might cause you to hurt yourself trying to hop around on one toe without touching the ground, which should probably be an Olympic sport in itself. However, if I find a poisonous snake around my house, I will do all that I can to kill it. I have two young grandchildren that play around here, and a snakebite could easily kill one of them, or even kill their dear old Grandpa, and I just will not risk it. Now, if some short-haired, Volvo-driving, apartment-dwelling, cappuccino-drinking, Nancy Pelosi fan club chick wants to send hateful email, let the games begin. However, I really don’t think that those women read Gunblast, so hopefully, I am safe.

Nope he was NEVER caught !!. :smt021. Like i said before : I better know you or your a$$ is dead . I bought the Sea Ray for her and she only got to enjoy it for only one year. :smt089. Denise drove 95% of the time but she'd never dock it.

I hope somehow he will be.

I am very, very, VERY sorry for your loss, the loss of all those that loved her, and the time she was robbed of as well.

I always carry , day or night ! better to have it and not need it , than need it and not have it !

at first i thought you must be putting us on Wayne: what you said seemed so unreal. Beautiful lady. I join the others in expresssing my deep regret. How are you doing?

I'm doing fine,Thanks . It just gets me mad when you have to carry a gun to protect your loved ones and the things you worked hard for. :smt013 .

Do you have more facts about this case other than whats in that article? If not, I really don't see what the correlation is with this thread.

The "facts" are not yet known.
According to interviews, she spent many weekends aboard near this sandbar. Supposedly there were witnesses that saw her boat under tow at some point.
According to the news reports, her disappearance/death is being viewed as suspicious.
May be related to the topic, maybe not...

I carry two.

A 410 snake charmer in case we get one of these and 44mag for bears and a$$holes that steal my shrimp pots.....

I have had a brown bear that was swimming between two islands try and get into my boat. A slap of an oar on the top of head changed his mind. But I did have my 44 out and cocked, just in case.

Wayne, sorry for your loss, but she is with you every time you go out....

Very sorry to hear about Denise, Wayne. Unfortunately, even if I had a weapon in the house and my wife was home alone, it wouldn't have done much good as she wouldn't have used it. I hope that the dog, who have a nice big bark, scares off anyone before they get inside.

Best regards,
Frank
