I have many years experiance rebuilding Velvet Drive, Paragon, Hurth and ZF transmissions. I will attempt to answer your questions about maintaining your unit or about how it works.
I do not recommend prop sizes leaving that to the prop people!

Welcome aboard! I am the first to admit to being a transmission moron. I have a vague idea where the box is, and what it does...but that's about as far as it goes. If someone had a transmission question, are there certain numbers or identifying criteria that make it easier for you to have a frame of reference?

I have velvet drives ,the port turns slowly while it is supposed to be in neutral. If i very slowly move the control it will for a extremly short period stop turning before engaging reverse. It wouldnt bother me but it can screw up docking if there is a breeze its hard to compensate for which makes for some fast hand shifting action.and an occasional back off and try again. Is this adjustable? the port shifter doesnt seem to set centered to mebut it wont start if it is.

ok i'll bite. 630 v drive. why does my port trans sound like it's comming apart in reverse. It is quiet in forward and performs perfect off idle. starboard is totally quiet all the way around.

Glad to have ya, ......

Thanks for the offer, and welcome aboard... I hope I don't have to ask many questions, not because I know the answers, but because I hope not to have problems.... BTW, if you shift in to forward at 1200 RPMs on a Hurth, what damage if any can you cause?

How hard are these velvet drive 5000 series V-drive trannies to rebuild? Do you need special tools? Not that I'm going to tackle the job, just curious.

I have Hurth trannies in my 39 ray and noticed some fluid in bilge so I contacted Hurth because when I pulled dipstick it was under pressure, I was told to change filter which I did and am still getting pressure I checked vent and it seems ok any ideas

Today is the 7 of sept...You still with us???

hello i have velvet drive trannies that work great but are leaking a little tranny fluid. How hard is it to install the gasket kit that they sell for this tranny, any help would be great

Well this one is for the Books!
The dip-Stick would not come loose ! out of thee ZF63A !
So what I did was try and remove it by unscrewing ! It Sheared OFF!
So now What?
Got a Screw Driver and a Hammer and started to chip away at the What's left!
Maybe not a Good Idea! Was all I had to work with "A Boat Brain Fart"
Did get most of it out! Except for one small Piece that fell in! About 1/8 size?
So now! I'm all out of "Brain Farts" And Haven't really found a Good Idea at all as of now!
Some Ideas do come to mind! Like Insert small Vacuum hose and draw out slowly what ever I can!
Then Drain bottom Plug and Check for any pink stuff pieces!
fill with some new ATF and Drain again!
Fill with New ATF Amsoil 25W40 then Run and latter check the Filter to see if it Picked up any Pieces!
Anyone out there with a Seeing Eye Dog that can Lend a hand!
Ill be more then Grateful! My best to all! Meidong117 --Yahoooo!

Hay! Sandpiper6 are you Dead or Alive? to Answer any ones Question!
