Hi All...

I have a new 185 Sport that we will be picking up in April...although with 75 degree temps here in Virginia today, I sure wish I had it now.

I am looking for s semi-custom cover that I can also use when trailering. Anyone with recommendations? Thanks in advance...

Greg

Are you going to be keeping it outside. We use the covers that came with it for trailering but she sleeps in the garage. I guess if I kept it outside I would want a mooring cover on it as well. Here is the most recommended place that I have seen.

The bow cover and cockpit cover will come with the boat.

Greatlakesboattop.com will have the 185 sports covers in stock. Good luck with it, you will love the boat especially with the 4.3.

I'd give Overton's a call as well. There are 3 basic cover types.

1. Cotton (very inexpensive, but you'll replace it every year.)
2. Poly blend - Good compromise, IMO.
3. Sunbrella - Best cover you can buy

I'd recommend the Sharkskin-type semi-custom covers. (Poly blend.) I've been very happy with mine. The Sunbrella covers are nice, but they're very expensive. Based on your comments, that might be overkill.

Thanks Wes... Yeah, unfortunately it will be outside since the garage isn't long enough. I will check out Great Lakes.

I understand we were really worried about it when we bought the boat. Luckily it will fit at an angle but no where close if we try to back straight in. The next house will definately have a deeper garage.

I had hoped it would fit also....but there is a storage room at the back...and then the Laundry room as you enter the house through the garage...which of course takes away from the length of the garage. I might be able to angle it like you did Wes...but I have my workshop bench etc.. in there and nowhere else to put that stuff.... I would consider a carport thing but those are not allowed per our HOA... So the cover(s), thick coat of wax, and a close eye on it is the best I can do.

Well... I found a Harbor Master Semi Custom fit boat cover through Walmart for $150.00 Nice thing is that if I don't like it...no issues taking it back.... Thanks again for the assistance...

Here are the details on the cover..

A premium-fitted boat cover to protect your valuable investment for years to come. Made of 100% custom-grade polyester that's treated to protect against mold, mildew and UV rays for maximum protection while trailering or in storage. With a rope in hemline for a tight, semi-custom fit.
Includes trailering straps, fabric and web loop reinforcements
Dual, rear air vents
Rope in the hemline for a tight, semi-custom fit
Backed by a 7-year warranty

Make sure you get some support poles to shed the rain/snow, else you'll have a lake in your boat. Good luck with the new boat!

Wesley, I always knew there was something about you that was just not right. You know what they say about such a clean garage must be a sign of a sick mind  :smt043  . That garage is just way to clean.

Ok, Ok back on subject, sorry I just could not help myself.

I have the 11X20 Garage Canopy and love it!! I also keep the bow/cockpit covers on to help keep the dust out. I keep it on my fathers property since it would not fit on mine plus I wanted to keep my indoor garage for our vehicles. It was one of the best things I could have purchased in my opinion. I went to Home Depot and bought some extra pipe to raise it 6" higher of the ground to allow some air flow in.

I like the canopy and would have definitely used one, but they are not allowed by our HOA, a cover is really my only option.

Walmart has a support pole kit for the covers for 9.99 but I think I can make some out of PVC much cheaper...

wish2fish... definitely will let you know how it fits and post a pic... in the meantime here is the link to the cover which has a picture...

Before you do anything at least call these guys. These guys made the canvas for my boat and all of the boats built in the Phoenix factory. http://www.westland-az.com/cc6.html
They have a great customer service

Todd, thanks for the tip. I have already ordered the semi-custom, so I'll wait for it to arrive in the next week and at least take a look at it. If it's solid and well made I 'll probably just keep it... hard to beat that $150 price...

Nehalennia II,
I went to that site and it looks like the covers that Overtons is selling. I tried to email them but that part of their site is down.

The use the term "cloudburst" and "Sharkskin" on their website.

Aquia185,
So it looks like you ordered your cover, I thought you went to walmart and got it. I'm just interested to see how it fits a searay. Since the covers are made to fit several models It might not be as snug as I want it.

As stated earlie my friend got the custom fitted Cloudburst from Overtons and it fits great. but at least double what you paid. My goal is for summer use only to keep the elements off the top part of the boat when I leave it outside for short periods between trips.

Yeah if you give them a call it's well worth it because they ask you what SeaRay you have and provide you everything done and fit to your boat except the snaps since they need to be installed on the canvas at the precise spot they are on your hull(gunnel). Even just for the info, I'm curious if they will have exactly what you were looking for. They have extremely reasonable prices as well.
Hopefully the one you ordered is exactly what you need.
Best of luck

Overtons having a catalog sale plus $5 off every $50 spent till 3/15/07. They have the 220 BR Gladiator Hurricane Sharkskin custom cover for $354.99 so I should be able to get it for $320.

Does anyone have this lighterweight cover? Sharkskin is the 6.5oz polyester cover. They come with the tie down kit for tarilering. My goal is to keep the sun/elements off upper fiberglass between trips during the summer.
