the Admiral asked me to find a way to have music on the bow of the boat when she is 'getting some sun' and also at the rear of the boat when we are floating behind the boat while at anchor.....
the current stereo system is not expandable...it is driving 8 speakers now...so i gave some thought to installing a second head unit to power some bow speakers and some transom speakers....
that was going to be a lot of work and somewhat expensive so i then thought about using a portable bluetooth speaker that could be moved to the bow or transom as needed....so as usual i researched this to death and made the decision to buy the bluetooth speaker shown bellow...
i received the speaker yesterday and tested the sound quality, sound volume, and the bluetooth range.....i must admitt that i agree with the majority of the reviews i have read that say this speaker has excellent sound quality and volume for such a small speaker.....while playing the built in FM radio i turned the volume all the way up and the speaker was very loud and had absolutely no distortion...and the range was excellent....i maintained a bluetooth connection between my ipad and the speaker of at least 30 ft and that was going through two walls in my home...what really impresses me is the flexibility of music sources this speaker supports....it has bluetooth, FM radio, USB port, mini SD card port, and a 3.5mm AUX IN port.....i guess one way to look at this speaker is it is a modern day 'jam box'....it can even be used as a speaker phone when using bluetooth with a smartphone....if a call comes in while listening to music you can push a button on the speaker and interrupt the music and use the built in microphone to talk to the caller....the build quality of the speaker seems to be very good.....this same speaker is branded by various companies, but it is easy to identify from other speakers by the unique shape of the shell....the manufacturer claims the battery charge will last anywhere from 5 - 9 hours depending on the volume level being used....
just thought i would share my thoughts on this speaker in case anyone may also be looking for one....the Admiral likes it so much she wants to buy a second one to use around the house.....don't expect this speaker to 'rattle the windows' but it does have a very crisp and clean sound and a decent bass sound....for this price point of around $35 i think it is an excellent buy....
i have no connection to the manufacturer of this speaker....
