I have never been, hear it is awesome and want to go this year. I am hoping others from the group will be there and we can raft-up. Please offer advice. Looking forward to an awesome experience. Thanks guys.

We'll be out for the NAS Patuxent River Air Expo either Saturday or Sunday...depends on which day looks better for weather. Be a short trip for us as our marine is also on base. :)

Be happy to raft up with you Todd.

We're planning on being there Saturday. I think it's the 23rd. We're talking Pax right?

I think Annapolis practice is on Tuesday 19th and the show is Wednesday the 20th on the Severn....which is always a good time. We are going to do the Tuesday/Wednesday thing then head to the Hyatt for Memorial Day Weekend -

I might be game for the Annapolis show, Todd. Let me see if I can free up Wed/Thu/Fri and do the same thing Josh is going to do ('cept I'll be headed to Mears, Kent Island for the long weekend.)

We may be in for that as well, but it depends on the Admirals schedule, then again it always does!
I would like to do Wednesday, the day of the show if possible.

Ok, just to be clear there are two sets of dates for the Blues on the Bay this year. The Pax airshow is 23/24 May.

This is the one we'll be at. The Blue Angels can also be seen earlier in the the week up in Annapolis, not exactly sure on the dates for that.

Thanks CJ, I thought I was going insane for a minute there. We're planning on going to the Saturday show at Pax. You'll show us where to anchor right? We may come down Friday if schedules permit. I'm assuming Solomon's will be packed, but I'll see if we can get a slip. If we can't get a slip for Saturday, we'll just leave after the show for our Sunday destination (the Hyatt).

Sure thing Tim. It's been something like 5 years since we've had an airshow at Pax, and out on the water is a great place to watch. The best place to anchor is right off the end of the runway, so you'll get a great view. There were a couple hundred boats out last time but the river is plenty wide at that point (and about 30' deep, mud bottom).

CJ - where you anchor in the pax to watch the show is it out in the open or semi-protected where people can raft up?

Thanks,

It's protected pretty well, just off the East Basin of the base. Lots of folks rafted up last time even though there was a bit of wind. If you look up NAS Patuxent River on Google maps, you'll see the East basin next to the end of runway 14. To the NE you have Hog Point, beyond that is Cedar Point and the Bay. Solomons is to the NW just across the river.

OK, other than one conflict at work, I've cleared my calendar. I won't be able to completely commit until tomorrow, but it's looking real good.

OK... me and two other boats just made reservations at Spring Cove for Friday and Saturday night. Looking forward to it!

CJ...We are in as well for the PAX show as well.

Todd-

I'll be heading down as well, with another boater from Bodkin. Probably early Saturday. Let me know your plans.
Stan-
I think Todd is talking about the Severn River shows earlier in the week. So are you staying on the Patuxent somewhere?

Sorry guys, I did not realize there are 2 Blue Angels events. I intend to go to the USNA graduation show on the Severn (Wednesday May 20). Looking for suggestions if anyone has any. I have never been.

The PAX show shounds even better. Checking with my admiral to see what my plans are ; )

Stan,

Not sure you want to overnight on the hook at the best spot to see the airshow...while it is fairly protected from weather, every boat heading in or out of the Patuxent will rock you...including all the fishing boats heading out at zero dark thirty. Or are you just planning to make a day trip?

We'll plan to be out fairly early Saturday (mostly to avoid the airshow traffic - the downside to having a slip on base).
