Blown head gasket...it looks like

With one hour on our long blocks when we had full system fresh water cooling kits installed. Port engine kept losing antifreeze. Under warranty, Jasper replaced all kinds of things, including the head gaskets. Still had a leak.

I did an exhaust leak test, which was positive. jasper dug into it some more. Turned out to be a bad exhaust manifold, which was from them. so they replaced it. No more leak.

Good Luck to you Todd. And Mucho Kudos to your Service Manager for taking care of this so you can make your Trip!

So tells us, how does it REALLY feel to be Gary-Lite? Does it create a partial vaccuum?

Best of luck with the repair, Todd. Hope everything works out -- sounds like you have a good dealer and mechanic so at least you're in good shape there!

Wow, best of luck. I know service can get frustrating some times. At least you have a good dealer.

Yes I did overheat back in January and I limped into the dock, so she did get pretty hot. (It was a bad day and a bad panicked decision). Since then everything has run great but I have had a slight coolant leak. It has been in twice to fix it. The has been no evidence of coolant in the oil, but last trip I saw just a touch of oil in the coolant, so she went back because I had a feeling the gasket may have been compromised.

So Jim240, I'm at the Redmond shop so I hope I'm not bumping you, but I really do need this boat back. I assume you're going into Lake Union by water.

Thanks for all the responses. I do really like and trust our dealer

Todd, Wish you the best of luck in getting her back and into the water for the trip! Sorry to hear you are going thru this!

Todd, hope all goes well with the repairs and they get it done on time for you.

Have your bags packed and ready, so if they cut it close you can just throw and go!

Unless the boat is big enough and you lose the engine with the only hydraulic pump and lose the steering also... In order for a twin engine boat (big) to be failsafe the systems need to be redundent as well and sea ray does not do that... At least on my boat they didn't. If I blow a head gasket, I just hope it's the port engine.

True.

Two engines does not make for 100% reliablility. In addition to the power steering, the electrical systems and fuel systems are non redundant. If you stop by on your way to New England and pour sugar into my gas. . .both engines are hosed.

I must admit that my boat is a bit smaller than yours (duh); although unpleasant, the 280SS is steerable without the power steering pump. I have twice limped home in this condition.

The first time was about two weeks after I got the boat. . . very annoying.

The second time I restarted the bum engine just to restore the power steering pump for the 4 minutes crucial to docking. At idle rpm, the engine did not have time to overheat before lines were secured and I shut it down.

Redundancy is, to some extent model dependant. All electrical except engine starting circuits is redundant on the 450DA, and you can use the emergency start to "rudundan-tize" that. Boats with a fuel manifold can cross feed fuel supply. I don't have or need power steering, but if I did and lost it, I could steer the boat hydraulically with the autopilot.

As I have said before, Sea Ray made one of their best ever boats in the 450DA.

I'm going to pick the boat up this afternoon, bring it home, get it ready and bring it back Monday so they can hammer this out.

well I don't wish this on anyone. I think we'll be good....but thanks

Yeah I'm up near the locks in a dry stack, never bothered getting a trailer. I just assumed that you were back at Lake Union as that's where I ran into you when you were having the outdrive replaced.

I was thinking you should do that... Makes sense and "fills the boat void this weekend"... No excuses that you "forgot to take" now...

We have to finish shopping for food and some other essentials like coffee filters now. Getting really close...

that'll be the only time you don't like to hear Blown and H34d together!
That's funny right there. True but funny

Yeah the new joint won't take trailer boats. It's good the your in Dry stack.

I'm going to have lot of excuses....for lots of different things.....but If you see me drinking early that first day....you know why.

Yesterday was a perfect day. It was an unbelievable nice calm day. It was smoking hot too. Glad to be on the boat...........IN THE FRONT OF THE HOUSE:mad:!!!!!

Oh well. I did get some things done for the big trip this coming Friday.
I added 20' of 1/4' chain to the anchor rode and installed the Newly Coined phrase (I believe by Doug~correct me if I'm wrong)"Bow Bling" to the anchor locker and Bow Roller. It's clear that my bow roller is designed specifically for this style of "Bow Bling".
I used a split lap link and squished it in the vise to secure, but I've never used a lap link before and I'm thinking of seeing about getting it welded.
I'd hate for this thing

to fall off.

Also, yesterday I did buy a flag base and a Nice Embroidered Talyor made 50 Star Flag. I am using the Old Flag Mast that I got from my Grandfathers boat "The Ebb Tide".

Build a box and stow the Spare props and prop wrench.
Get a bag to stow the new Sevylor inflatable we bought yesterday.

Any time left I will continue to polish.
