i have a 1979 26' searay express crusier, with a single 260 merc. i have been having troubles with the inline fuse located between amp meter on the dash and the key switch. when it does blow, it pegs the amp meter at -60. ok now you know my problem let me tell the story.

A week ago i started my boat on flusk kit to get it ready for the water. ran fine no problem at all. i went to start it a couple days ago , the fuse that i was talking about poped, pu a new fuse in and it popped again. welli went though all the wiring checked thightness and signs of corosin. nothing. put a new fuse in (30a) and the boat started fine. went back to start it a hour later , and pop there goes a 30a fuse. so i check everything again, and still nothing. put another fuse in and pop. the batts are all charged fine and correctly, and connections have been clean,(starter, alt. , and so forth and so on) know i am stuck someone please help.

Xpken,

What your described sounds sort of strange. IE Normally when a fuse blows something stops working.

More information would be helpful IE Does anything not work when this fuse blows? What items are protected by this fuse? Have you tried disconnecting the other things protected by this fuse to see which item might be shorting out and blowing the fuse. Is this the amp meter for your alternator or your battery charger?

Not sure about this but, at this time it sounds like you have a short, like an exposed wire that only shorts sometimes, which blows the fuse and puts full amps from the battery to your amp meter, which pegs it.
