Is Block Island worth the trip, has anyone been there. I've heard that it can be a lot of fun. I was there on business this week, took the ferry from Piont Judith. There dos'nt seem to be much dockage.

Are you kidding, Block is consistently voted the number one boating destination in the Northeast.
There are two parts on the island to dock or anchor, New harbor and Old harbor.
Try some searches and see what its all about.
If I could only use my boat once all year, I would go to Block Island.

Cheers,

Many, many years since I've been there (as a kid) but it was always an adventure. Fishing was great - lots of stripers, tatog and halibut - weather can get dicey real quick, though short lived, and docking, anchoring can get crowded. The people are nice, very cliquish, but always friendly to boaters.

I'm in So Cal now - for many years, and nearest 'populated' island is Catalina which is a tourist trap - no comparison.

I am a block island guy in may, June, September and October............I stay at Champlins and I have the mud slide machine to myself.....It is a wonderful island....You went into the ferry dock....You need to go to the west side of the island which is called Great Salt Pond.....

How long of a trip is that for you?

Thanks that's great info, we're trying plan a trip this summer, we were thinking about Newport or Block Island. I think I'm 3 hours from Newport, maybe 6 to Block Island. Anyone have accurate travel time from Falmouth to Newport or Block Island.

It should be 3-4 hours from Falmouth to BI for you. It is about 60 miles if you go around to New Harbor. It takes me an hour and a quarter from Newport to BI at around 21 knots.

Block Island is a fantastic place. Very casual. Very fun. I made about 10-12 trips out there last year.

Keep us in the loop on the CSR rendezvous. We're looking to go to BI around the same time.

Michael.

Great! Just follow the thread and let Alex know as soon as you think you can do it so he can inform the marina!

Nobody goes to Block Island anymore... It's too crowded.

Seriously, go. It's worth the trip.

I'm in, sounds like a great trip. We spend most weekends at Oaks Bluff, this will be our 2nd year with this boat and we're looking to venture out.

There must be a reason why people refer to the Block as the "Caribbean of the North". I think it's a must see destination. Here's my post with some pictures from last year: http://clubsearay.com/showthread.php/39267-LI-Rendezvous-2011?p=505886#post505886

If you don't feel like reading through the whole post, just do a find on "While enjoying our stay in Montauk", this is where the pcitures of the Block start.

As Todd said, if anyone wishes to participate is LI rendezvous, please let me knowand post your info in our dedicated thread for the event (the link Todd posted). Don't hesitate to ask more questions.

63 Chaos/Humph.....I am from Hyannis and "on average" going out around Cuttyhunk to Block Island takes about 4 1/2 hours..You can cut a 1/2 hour off of that and more putting the throttles more forward...I generally say for me two (2) hours to Cuttyhunk and two (2 1/2) to Block (not exact, but close).......It is a wonderful change from Vineyard, Nantucket or Newport.........

I will be leaving for LI Rendevous from Hyannis as follows:

Wednesday 1st 8:00 PM Cuttyhunk (anchor)
Thursday 2nd 4:00 AM Cuttyhunk to LI
Sunday 5th 6:00 AM LI to Hyannis

If anyone from the Cape wants to go, you can follow me.

Block was by far my favorite destination, I've been to on a boat... The only problem for me is it too far to go there every week end... If I boated anywhere within 2 hours of block, we would be there almost every week end... It is blast. No too stuffy, clean, beautiful and charming...

Pick up a mooring ball to get the full experience... Bet yet go there with Russ C....

A quick plot shows about 40nm from Falmouth to Newport and about 50nm from Falmouth to Block.

With stopping for lunch it has taken us around 4 1/2 hours, not pushing, depending on weather. Watch for fog but nice southwest pushing you on the way home.
