Blackberry Phones

The new software was available this morning as a button on my screen. It downloaded and only took about 10 minutes. BIG diference in speed and turning the phone from portrait to landscape...

I had the leaked version (.75) for over a week that I got off of crackberry. On Friday night I did a java loader wipe and installed (.76) from Bell. A couple things are were changed from .75 to .76 but not a ton like .65 to .75.

Crackberry's suck I bet ya'll use mac's too!

I tried out the crackberry storm at the verizon store and I thought it was the slowest piece of poo in the world tried browsing the net took it 2 minutes to load msn.com and then it looked like poo.

It was so slow I almost through it through the front window of the store.

It sounds like you have a stunningly mature way of handling yourself.

I got the curve right before they started talking about the storm and it is very rare that you do not see me typing away on it. Storm will not be in my future but if I had waited a little I would have taken it over the curve.

Considering the dare is dumb phone and the storm is a smart phone, they aren't even on the same level. The storm is definitely a great phone that is very customizable.

I since I am tecno ignorant what does that mean, dumb phone ? simple to use ? or un-customizable ? could you please explain.

Thanks

A smart phone basically offers 'PC like' capabilty. A dumb phone is, well, just a phone.

Well... I upgraded my Blackberry and got a Storm yesterday. My son grabbed it and put some new upgraded non-Verizon supported beta OS to fix the web browser and speed issues.

It's pretty nice...

So what are the best weather/marine apps for this thing?

Weatherbug is nice. It will pull up weather based on GPS location. Therefore, no searching for zip codes for weather data. The only downside is the new version uses a little more radio than the previous because there are some small ads at the top. I believe the new version also has either eliminated or reduced the memory leak associated with the old one.

What operating system did he install? Did you install one of the 'hybrids'? I think I'm up to ver .114 or so. www.crackberry.com is your best source for info.

Download a program called 'where'. The program will help you find just about anything you're looking for from gas or places to eat, etc. It will also map it for you and give you directions. It's like a suped up version of the yellow pages.

Also download google maps. Best free map program out. It blows away blackberry's preloaded map program.

Let me know if you need anything else. I have wiped this device with JL Cmder on every beta operating system and thoroughly tested them. They do keep getting better and better.

Gary can you provide some more info on the Storm browser upgrade? I have a storm (with cracked screen already) and would love to update the software

I don't know what the update was... My son did it. The browser that came with it didn't work on CSR and he said "I can fix that" and put a new RIM browser on it and now CSR works.

Weatherbug looks cool.

Are there any chart apps for this thing?

Anyone use bluetooth to use this thing as a tethered modem for their MacBooks?

If you go into options in the browser, you can switch between 'blackberry', 'internet explorer', and 'firefox'. Sometimes different browsers load different sites better than others.

I purchased Tetherberry for PC tethering. I don't believe they support MAC yet (supposed to soon) but I believe it works with Parallels from what I was reading. Tetherberry does not support bluetooth either at this point.

I used parallels on my Macbook with my old Blackberry and tethered it... I just want to stop using Windoze all together. I hate Windoze... and it hates me back.

I think you just have to find the modem script for you storm and service provider. There are a few how to's depending on your service provider.

you just setup your bluetooth modem in the system preferences with the script and surf away.

I use the generic bluetooth lash-up for my Mac. I use AT&T, should work if you can find the username/password for verizon.

Yup, using it now. Get up to 1.5 mbps on downloads with 3G network
