Took off for Bimini at 1:00 AM Friday morning hoping for a smooth trip over. The night crossing was good for most of the way but at 5:00 AM we dodged thunderstorms and cargo ships 20 miles off Bimini. Ray and his son Chris joined us on our boat for a guys weekend of boating, fishing and lobstering. Sean Ensley also joined us. Mike, Nick and Scott came over on Mikes boat. We all stayed at Big Game. Weather was great on Saturday and Sunday.

We did well with +/- 30 lobster and assorted fish. A big surf and turf dockside feast on Saturday night. The resort was sold out and allot of people at Big Game. On Sunday morning, we went to Hen/Chicken and Great Issac for more snorkeling before returning home. The water on was glassy. We could see the bug condos from the bridge as we were running at 20 kts.

The crossing back was something seldom seen......

Thanks, I would really like to join you sometime. I'm a bit of a newbie to cruising with only one trip to Port Lucaya under my belt. Unfortunately, I spend most of the summer boating season in Ca. Perhaps we can raft up sometime on Lake Boca when I get back to Fla.

I carry a full load of adult beverages and would enjoy picking your brain on cruising & discussing our EB's

great video and photos Randy.. Thanks so much for the invite.. I'm working on getting things to where I can actually spend time with you guys one of these days!!!! Nothing better than being with family and friends, and in Bimini all together that's even more special!! Will call you during the week.

Odyssey,

Looking to make the Bimini trip next summer. Planning now for a trip from Savannah to Miami and then across. What was your fuel burn rate (gph) and travel time across? Just bought a 05' 260 Sundancer.

My boat burns about 30 GPH at cruise (19 kts). My trips to Bimini start at Boca Inlet which is 63 miles NW of Bimini. My route puts me against the gulf stream on the way there and with it on the way back. Miami is almost directly west of Bimini, only 50 miles and runs perpendicular to the Stream.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Some friends and I crossed from Port Everglades (Fort Lauderdale) to Bimini this past June in my 2006 260 DA and my fuel burn (when I could plane out) was 17 gph at 30 mph. You can read my report in the Southeast Forum.

Have fun, be prepared, and be safe.
