First call for all those signed up or wanting to sign up for the 1st Bahamas Boating Fling June 18th-21st to Bimini, put on by the Bahamas Tourism Council.

Last years was a blast with about 20 boats in all and this year has about 13 or 14 signed up so far. Captains meeting is the night of June 17th at the Bahia Mar in Fort Lauderdale, and we all leave first light June 18th. Less than 50 miles from Port Everglades, Bimini is closer to the coast than the Keys, the water is amazing, and the fun keeps on going on...not to mention the great Conch Salad at Joe's ...so if you want to join us, or have already signed up, reply here and pm me if you want more information.

Barry

Barry,
We are all signed up. Counting down the days now, not too much longer. It's going to be myself, my wife, and another couple on our boat. Looking forward to it!

That's great..PM or email me your email, cell and MMSI if you have one, and I'll do the same and we can keep in touch...

I did this trip last year and had a blast.. Can't wait to do it again..

Anyone else either signed up or wanting to sign up, let me know...I don't know how many more spots are open, but probably about 6 or so...

Barry

Three weeks till we leave for Bimini...I think they still have room for more boats, so if anyone needs info or want to join the fun, either post here or send me a PM...

Hey Barry,

I'm a little confused... How can this be the 1st annual if there was one last year?

My Bad...It's the first one this summer (they do 4 different ones each summer)...

Thanks!!

Barry,
Not too much longer now, we leave 2 weeks from Tuesday to start heading down to Bahia Mar. I'm starting to get everything in order. We went today and got our LBO's at our local airport and I'm going to look into the MMSI # you spoke about. Anything else you can think of off hand I should put on my list for the trip (other than food & drinks, flags, decal)? Since getting this boat the wife and I have only done short weekend trips away. Thanks for any input and looking forward to relaxing in the Bahamas soon!

Did you get the list from Karen at the Bahamas? if you enjoy snorkeling, bring a mask, fins, etc, , along with a few noodles or rafts for a raft up. A bunch of us will go to honeymoon harbor one of the days which is a great raft up place, and the concrete ship Sapora is also a great place to snorkle. Not much else, other than what you said...of course passports, drinks, food, and ice chest with some ice is good too. Some spare parts just in case...extra fenders and lines..

Keep in touch...it will be here before we know it!!! Hopefully a bunch more here on CSR will join us...

Yea we keep our snorkel gear on the boat all the time so it's already on. Regarding ice, i just got a portable ice maker on ebay, pretty compact where it will fit on counter down below. We tested it at home and it works pretty well, so that will save us room so we don't have to bring a cooler w/ ice. I think we are going to bring a few rods also, as my buddy coming loves to fish so we may see if we can catch some dinner for one night. Thanks for the info.

Oh when you mean spare parts, what type of parts you talking about (got plenty of lines & fenders, & picked up a handheld gps & have handheld vhf's also)?? Thanks again for the input.

Also I didn't get anything from Karen at Bahamas so I'll have to call them? What did they send you?

Thanks again,
Brian

Here in Ft. Lauderdale it's Bahia Mar. In Bimini it's Browns marina and hotel. If you haven't made reservations there just google brownsmarina Bimini and there is a Miami (305) phone number and you can call and confirm, though I think Karen at the Bahamas tourist office is making reservations for anyone signed up for the trip. It's a good idea to call browns anyway. If you can't find the number call me later today and I'll look for it for you. 954-224-7411.

Who is coming along with you? Will be a great trip!!

Thanks Barry.

I cleared my post right after I left it because I got through to somebody running the event. They make the marina reservation as part of the event. I live very close to Bahia Mar so I will not be at the marina Wednesday night but I will be at the captains meeting. It's at 7PM

My 19YO daughter is going with me.

Looking forward to it.

Tom

Sounds great Tom...Will see you at the Captains meeting... just make sure Thursday morning you are up and at the Bahia Mar by 6am, as we leave right around 6-6:30 if I remember from last time.

My cell is 954-224-7411.

See you in about 2 weeks.

As vague as the tourism council is about responding I did get confirmation and information sheets via EMail today. Good to go and they are nice people.

I'm right off Los Olas so I don't have far to go that morning. My daughter is going to love getting up as she'll be on mountain time.

Really excited about the trip.

Tom

Great...Tom, Brian, How about meeting about 6:40-6:45 down in the lobby.. The meeting should be upstairs if it's the same as last year..

Two weeks 3 days to go...

Sounds good,

I left a voicemail for Karen today for email with additional details. All I have received so far is confirmation that I'm in and a brochure on Bimini, and immigration papers back on 4-1-09. You said they emailed you an itinerary also or something showing activities recently?

Also the meeting is in a hotel at Bahia Mar? Never been down there before. Is the meeting just for captains or do families go as well? Thanks again and looking forward.

meeting for captains and crew (families, friends going etc).. The Bahia Mar is a hotel/Marina. It will be not only for the captains meeting, but where we all leave from in Thursday morning..

No real itinerary, we will all figure things out as there is a lot to do depending on what you want to do- fish, snorkel, dive, explore, drink, sun, drink, eat, etc...The color of the water is amazing and so clear!!

Karen is usually pretty good at getting back to you. They will have a dinner /cook-out one night for us...

Getting closer!!!

I think I overstated what they sent. I received a confirmation, boaters checklist, schedule of dock fees at Brown's.

I didn't get an itinerary. I'm just going with the flow. Heck, I'm happy to have somebody make the dock reservations..

I also didn't get any imigration information but Karen said imigration is about a 5 minute walk from the dock. I've got local boater on the other side.

yes, as the captain, you will be the only one allowed off your boat when we dock, and all the captains gather up all the paperwork and walk to customs and immigration, which are in 2 separate buildings. Takes about 30 minutes to take care of it all...

Barry

Hi all

Just got the word from the BOSS that we are OK to go to Bimini. I spoke to Karen today and there is still room. They'll have my check by tomorrow.

Look forward to meeting you all.
