Take lots of pictures for us poor souls that have to work.
Will do.. This is my first vacation since last year's Bimini trip...
Being my first longer trip on this boat, what spare parts do you bring? (I have extra oil, coolents, handheld VHF's & GPS on boat already)
Thanks, only 1 week from Tuesday before we leave for Ft Lauderdale to meet up with everybody
I bring a little of everything.. I have a sea spares kit for my generator that comes with various parts for that, I take extra oil filters, fuel filters, water separator filter, impellers kits, transmission oil, engine oil, clamps, various tapes (electrical, duct, emergency), zip ties, and tools to do those repairs if needed. Of course I also bring my ditch kit with everything needed for emergencies, and this year a 406 GPS PLB (last year I rented an EPIRB).
A hand held VHF radio, charts of the Bahamas as well as South Florida, a hand held spotlight (even though I have a remote, the hand held is sometimes faster and better), binoculars etc.
Extra lines, fenders, rafts and noodles, plenty of beer & Ice (I know Ray will be making his mud slides and Chad his Margaritas, water, sodas, food...
If anyone can think of anything else, please post it too..
All of the above plus maybe a liferaft. For sure a Sea Tow membership and a credit card with a large limit.
See you at the captains meeting.
A liferaft? Aren't you going with like 20 other boats? I would hope if your boat sank someone would be nice enough to give you a lift until you reach shore. Otherwise, what is the sense of going with others? I agree with the spares for your particular boat, but liferaft? Takes up to much space for this particular kind of trip.
There's no telling if anyone would do a pick up if they are in a hurry. Just kidding.
I always have a liferaft. It's maybe 20lbs and and about twice the size of briefcase. Not a big deal. If I take off and go to Cat or some other offshore places apart from the group I still want to have it.
Since it is the summer and hot as can be, I always keep a spare AC water pump. The wife nor I can do without air conditioning at night.
great to hear that Ray, now I know where to get one if mine goes out!!!!
Ray, never thought about that.. where do I get one and how much are they?
I don't have a liferaft, but I'll have my dinghy to run around with..
They are not cheap, just over $200 for my boat and can be purchased at West Marine or Boat Owners Warehouse. In my case I had one go out in the not too recent past and That would be reason enough to cut a trip short for my crew.
I'll have to look into it. Do you have a cruisair also? How difficult is it to replace? Any special tools?
180 hours till departure.. ok, I'm counting down the hours!!! I also looked at the bahama wave site:
and at 180 hours which would be around 6am next Thursday, it looks fantastic.. Let's all keep our fingers and toes crossed...
Looking forward to seeing you all soon.
Got my fingers crossed on the weather Barry.
It was as flat as I've seen it in a long time this morning. Jet Ski to Bimini conditions.
Yea, I'm hoping for good weather starting Tuesday for my treck down from Daytona, if it's nice I can go outside and it will take about 10-12 hrs vs inside if it's bad weather which could take more like 14-16 hours. We are leaving Tuesday to give us 2 days if we have to for the trip down to Bahia Mar. Looking forward only 5 days til I leave and this time next week we'll be meeting up at Bahia Mar.
The forecast is decidely boring. Let's hope it stays that way. See you Wednesday night!
Man this sounds like an awsome trip. I wish I had the time and fuel to come down and go with you guys. Looks like your weather is going to be great. Have a good trip and post some pics.
Come on down...It should be a great time!!!
5 days to go...
I was out about 15 miles this afternoon. Wind from the south and the gulfstream was very calm compared to being around the shore. I thought about just keeping headed for Bimini....
hang in there and wait for the rest of us...very calm in the morning but very choppy in the afternoon, which is why we will leave at first light...
Looking forward to seeing everyone Wednesday night. I'm bringing my boat over to the Bahia Mar Wednesday around noon so I don't have to go thru what I did last year; which was work all day and Chad and I went to the Captains meeting; then went back to my house and packed thru the night and got to the Bahia Mar around 1am...
My cell is 954-224-7411, so whenever someone gets over there, give me a call..
