Bilge pump helm indicator

I honestly don't know if I have a check valve inline with mine. I know for sure I don't have what you have in that picture. I don't have problems with the pump pushing water as long as it's deep enough to not cavitate. The amount of water sloshing around in the center of the spars was enough to activate the float but not deep enough to allow the pump to suck it up and out.

Melinda,

When I cleaned mine, everything worked fine after that. I'd change that check valve if I were you.
Mike

Thanks Mike.
Trying to find a similar sized locally to replace it.

Dale there should be a check valve in yours to. I haven't checked the owners manual that if the check valve is a CE mandatory since my boat is 375 European equivalent of your 340, but logically there must be.

I'm gonna change the check valve then report back.

Thanks again.

Going off memory my rear most bilge pump has a white hose with a service loop in it before leaving the hull. The pump side has what looks like a small 'strain relief' looking section that is about 1 1/2" long that connects to the outlet of the pump. It looks very similar to what is on my sump pump. I know there is a 'duck-bill' type back flow limiter in the sump that cost me a pump motor because it would constantly cycle as water flowed back into the box burning up the motor. It's possible that there is a similar set up in my bilge. I'd almost prefer there be nothing in there that could pose a clog problem and potential sinking issue if the pump couldn't clear the clog in the valve and in turn the water or burn up the pump due to a similar cycling issue. I would expect this is somewhat limited by the service-loop in the hose. I don't know what or if there is a standard that would drive a back-flow valve being in there.

I just found a picture. I only have coming off of the pump the white section that I mention in the above post. It's possible there is a duck-bill in there acting as the back flow limiter.

Yours is definitely different than mine, but same purpose, perhaps a year/production difference as yours is 04 and mine is 07.

Would like to see that picture.
I can't find a similar check valve of what I have locally, but gonna buy a jabsco which does not have threaded connectors just hose type body fit in bilge pump hose and to be tightened with double hose clamps.

I don't know why that shows up pink or red in the picture. That's the part I was talking about.

Dale thanks for the pic.
I don't have that part on my bilge pump hose, also my hose is different than yours.
Replaced the check valve and it ran automatically when I filled bilge with water but haven't sea trialed yet, maybe on new year's first day.
