BIH Get Together (formerly:Navigating the Chesapeake)

dom
if you were going to be in Balt. sunday night and monday night, you may have missed the DAY yankee game at Camden Yards. if you push the whole thing back a week, and wind up in baltimore on sunday the 22nd and mon the 23rd, dem O's will be in oakland on sunday and have an off day on monday. :smt009 maybe there'll be a rain-out makeup game that monday!

Instead of going to a baseball game, I guess I'll just have to spend Monday night in little Italy....and drown my sorrows in the Italian Bakery that has a Monday night Canoli buffet....

Bravo! stop in fell's point for a beer for me!

OK guys....we need to get Serious about this trip. My wife just put her dates down in INK...where she works, she has to have her "days off" in by the end of this month.

Anyway, we are going to Schooner Island Marina with the MM Getaway on Friday, 7/20/07 for two nights (Friday, 7/20 and Saturday, 7/21). We will be picking up anchor on Sunday morning, 7/22/07, and heading into BIH for two nights (Sunday 7/22 and Monday 7/23). We will be leaving from BIH on Tuesday, 7/24/07, bright and early and heading back to NJ.....destination..... Farley State Marina at Trump Plaza in Atlantic City for two nights, (Tuesday, 7/24, and Wednesday, 7/25). On Thursday, 7/26, we head back home...

Confirmed reservations at Schooner through MM and confirmed reservations at Farley's in AC.....

Haven't decided yet on which Marina in BIH, but would like to reserve this week sometime. From NJ, 3 boats confirmed (so far). More are welcome, but the sooner the better for reservations....

Input on BIH marinas please...and who on "the Other side" is planning to hook up????

Dominic- The three BIH marinas that I have personal experience with are Inner Harbor East, Inner Harbor Marina (yes thereis a difference between the two) and Harbor View. All are nice marinas with floating docks, and are all probably the same price. The differences are location and a trade off on some amenties.

Inner Harbor East is where we go most often. It is close to Little Italy, the ESPN Zone and the Aquarium.

Inner Harbor Marina is being re-done now and I'm assuming it will be done by summer. It is close to Federal Hill and the Science Center and is less of a walk to Harborplace than IH East. Both are a decent walk though.

Harborview is far from everything by land (except a pretty cool Cuban restaurant/bar... I think it's called Little Havana, but my memory is a lttle foggy on that  ). BUT it has a pool on a floating barge. It's not the biggest or greatest pool in the world but it is a pool nonetheless. The reason why this is important is it can be STIFLING in the Inner Harbor. The city knocks down all but the biggest breeezes, so an afternoon dip can be very welcome.

In all cases, we bring the dinghy to get around the city, so locations and distances are not that big a deal for us.

There are some other marinas further out in the harbor, but I have no experience with them.

We're a solid "maybe" - that is the weekend before our son heads off for scout camp, so it would be a good family trip. I've recently taken a promotion and a move to a new project and I'm not exactly sure how that is going to effect our boating plans this summer.

I guess we can always cancel if it gets too hard, so let us know where you decide to tie up and we'll make a reservation.

-CJ

I've narrowed it down to Inner Harbor Marina and Inner Harbor Marina East.....

Inner Harbor has access to an indoor pool and gym in the Hotel accross the street according to Ben the manager.

48 hour cancellation policy. $2.50 foot for Sunday night, 7/22/07 and $2.00 foot for Monday night, 7/23/07....$15/night for electric...CATV, WiFi, Gym and Pool Included...

I keep getting a busy signal at Inner Harbor East .....

We decided not to go to Harbor View. We stayed there a few years back. It's little away from everything and we wanted to try something different.

Any input on the two Marina's above....I will be confirming my reservations by NO LATER THAN this Friday.

Dominic, Chris, we are in..just let us know where and we will make a slip reservation. Chris, maybe we overnight at Solomons on Saturday, then head up to BiH on Sunday with you guys?

regards
Skip

I spoke to Inner Harbor East....they are $2.35 / foot and $5 for 30amp, and $10 for 50amp electric. No pool. Floating docks, and a 24r cancellation policy....

Anyone want to vote on marina preference?

No preference either way from us - we're easy. :smt001

Who else is thinking about meeting us there?

-CJ

Cool...So far it looks like we have 7 committed ....

1 420DA (Skip),
2 410DAs (me and Frank H),
1 380DA (galewinds)
1 370DA (xravenx)
2 320DAs (CJ and Fred)

More are welcome....I know it's only February, but the sooner we book, the better our chances of getting slips together....

we still need to decide on which marina...

Baltimore Marine Center?

I am new to the board, enjoying the posts and DYING that everything is covered in ice right now.

Has anyone thought of BMC in Baltimore? Great pool, tons of restaurants and bars walking distance. It is the first marina in the Inner Harbor on the right. MarineMax just got hooked up with the marina. We have been there for four years and really like the access to Canton/Fells Point. The Science Center, Aquarium, etc are a water taxi away.

My wife and I have had the boat for a few years and are looking to branch out and make more friends on the water. Would love to catch up with you guys when you make the journey!

Trebbel:

First...welcome to the board.

BMC? No, this is the first I've heard of it...don't know much about it, but I will look and see. Do they have website?

BMC is Baltimore Marine Center, there is a webiste:
http://www.baltimoremarinecenter.com/

I haven't been, but know many who have... as trebbel says it is nice and there are restaurants, shops, etc. On the downside it is a good haul to the "inner harbor" (Harborplace, aquarium, Science Center, etc.) from there. Of course, you can take a water taxi as trebbel points out.

Look at this map to get an idea of where it is located versus the inner harbor and the other marinas:

Biased...

You are correct, it is a bit of a hike to the Inner Harbor. Canton Square is the biggest "attraction" close to the marina with tons of restaurants. If the Aquarium and such are on the agenda. IHM or IHE are better choices. If relaxing by the pool is on the agenda, I don't think you can beat BMC's pool. My $.02.

I am SOOO looking forward to spring and getting back on the boat. Good luck with the trip. Hope to see you guys soon.

We are very interested in the trip, too. Are any of you guys from the Chesapeake making the trip to Schooner Island? The longest trip we've made is about 2 hours and we're a little nervous about that distance.

Jeff

Hey Guys,

Just got back from a cruise to the Carib......and here I sit with 1 foot of snow and cold weather. Just yesterday morning we were having breakfast on a ship in San Juan PR in about 83 degrees. Where is the global warming "thing" everyone has been so worried about... what is wrong with me???? Should have retired to St. Lucia or St. Thomas or some other "Saint" place! :smt021

Anyway, we do not have a marina preference but we will be there. Of course that assumes that the Ice has melted by July. :smt013

Frank....Welcome back......I took the liberty of commting you.....for the trip that is....I hope you had a great cruise.. .....did the captain let you drive....
