BIH Get Together (formerly:Navigating the Chesapeake)

That sounds like a good trip -- we're thinking it would be fun to travel to Wildwood and join up, then head home after the BIH.

My kids are wondering what younger company would be along, though?

Jeff:

At the Schooner side, it's a MM Getaway, so you will have to book early.....my daughter is older (19) so she doesn't count as kids, but there were a bunch of kids there last year....the kids will love the boardwalk and rides at night and during the day, there is nice clean pool....how old are your kids???

I will be contacting another friend ('05 340DA) and he has three boys (9, 12 &14 I think) to see if he wants to go also....There is also another boater we cruised with last year ('05 390DA) and he has two young ones about 5 boy and 9 girl. Either way, it'll be a good trip, and the more we have, the more fun it will be......

Our son is 13, but I think he might be at scout camp that weekend. If he's not at camp he'll be with us (Chris a.k.a. CJ, Shell a.k.a. Michele and Ryan a.k.a the boy). We'd like to meet up with everyone at the BIH. Haven't heard from Skip yet but I imagine we'd hook up with him at Solomons and head north. I'd like to split that trip up into two days, we'll see. Any other south / mid bay folks interested?

-CJ

This sounds like fun.

Of course, I thought I would be off this weekend; customer dropped a $50M request for proposal on Thursday so me and a few other fools are working all weekend, all day New Years Day, etc. etc. etc. So--count us in, as CJ said, if we can get the schedules to work out.

regards
Skip

My daughter is 15 -- 16 in May -- and is the most concerned. Her response to your posts was "sounds like fun", so I'll contact the folks at MM on Tuesday. My son will be 13 in March and he's a bit less worried about it (he seems to find friends most places we go). We haven't taken any trips this long yet, so going to Wildwood will be a new experience for us.

Our marina manager's husband runs a marina in the BIH, so I'll check with her on slips, too.

Come on summer!
Jeff

Skip,
Don't you hate it when pesky customers get in the way of planned time off!!!!! :smt043 ......Another reason to embrace retirememt....... I fondly think back to my consulting days when a client would submit an RFP on Friday and expect a full proposal by end of day Monday........What are they thinking???? :smt021
Happy New Year

This sounds like a real fun trip, but my admiral is not ready for it :smt018 . I've been taking baby steps from the Metedeconk River - first Tice's Shoal, then Barnegat Light, then Beach Haven. Next year is Ocean City (New Jersey :smt009 ). I did a fair amount of boating on the Chesapeake back in my school daze, and it'd be fun to get back to that area someday... ah... someday :smt089

I have stayed at both Inner Harbor and Inner Harbor East. IMO East is the nicer marina, very friendly and helpful. It is a longer walk to the inner harbor but very doable. It is close to Little Italy and all the great places to eat!

Ron:

Think about meeting us on the way back at Atlantic City......mid week stays there are relaxing, and if your wife likes shopping, the outlet stores will score you big points.....

I was just poking around in the Off Shore Navigator...... again...... and the dates we're scheduled to be in BIH are FULL MOON....I always like to cruise on the Full Moon....AND....the Yankees are in town at the Camden Yards for the weekend......must be an Omen.....

dominic
you can ALWAYS get tix to the yankees/o's game at camden yards. and it is WALKING DISTANCE from the inner harbor. my buddies that live down there always complain that it's like a yankee home game sometimes, esp if the o's are not playing well.

plan on attending the game - even if you walk down there at 6:30 with no tickets. you can scalp easily. if you've never been there, it's a great park and a must see! (esp since the yankees own the orioles at camden yards!)

thanks for the invite to AC. i'll keep an eye on your dates but it might be tough since we are planning our OC junket either first or second week in august.

are you planning any local (bay area) cruises this summer? we'll probably make beach haven our first stop on the way to ocean city. have you entered/exited little egg and great egg inlets recently??

Ron:

Yes...we went to Camden Yards on our last trip to BIH a few years back......we had pulled pork sandwiches in right field and had our pictures taken with Boog Powel.....

So far we have this trip (Schooner, BIH, AC) planned and our anual AC trip for the 4th of July...4,5,6 July with 3 or 4 other boats....

We're also talking about a trip northward...maybe NY Harbor, LI Sound or the Navesink (Moly Pitcher in Red Bank) ....

No hard dates yet other than the two trips up top.....We may even do a second Schooner trip combined with a stop in AC again....admiral's all like that trip....

we'll be at the "Secret Spot" a bunch, as that is right in my own backyard, and of course Tices....You're welcome to join us in any of the trips, and I'm sure I'll catch up with you on the bay somewhere.......

I just finished watching Port O' Call...they highlighted a 50 DA in Sommers Point, NJ....really got my blood flowing....

I've been through little egg inlet a few times....a little tricky but well marked....

Manasquan and Barnegat inlets have their moments....I'm sure you've through those a few times...

Never been through great egg inlet, but they just showed it on POC......

Cape May inlet is a piece of cake......at least every time I've gone through...

...Bing on the SPRING.....

hi dominic
WOW! you are a regular Magellan! i wish i could take that much time away from work. I tried to get a slip up in Red Bank a few years back for 4th of july and they laughed at me. apparently they have the same repeat customers every year and they have nothing available. and that's when i had my 26 footer.

in 2.5 seasons with THIS boat, believe it or not, i havent ventured out into the atlantic. did it once with the 26', just to see what it was like. that was through manasquan. the canal that day was worse than the inlet! have heard absolute HORROR stories about barnegat and good things about cape may and absecon. to do OC, we'd have to go out little egg and in great egg. could be adventurous! i'll have to get "local knowledge" before setting out.

i will probably see you at code name "Wilson Slice." where are you docked? we are way up the metedeconk r.

what's "port of call??"

I dock behind the house in Bayville...I bought my first house, a 680 sq ft bungalow on a canal, back in '84.....and moved up through the years....in house and boat...Admiral says we're done....but I have other plans....the way I see it...we need a smaller house and a bigger boat...Women don't seem to have that same.....outlook...

This will be our 6th year doing Atlantic City for July 4th....may try Moly Pitcher mid to late June for a weekend, or just go to Liberty Landing and ferry back and forth to the City for a few days.

Went upto Albany and into the canals one year, but the floating "trees" make that trip "interesting"....

women rarely have the same outlook.

ah, bayville - we picked up a mooring at water's edge after a friday at the "secret place" last summer. that was fun, food was OK, band was decent.

you didnt mention what "port of call" is? TV show?

Ron:

Yes POC is a TV series...way too many commercials, but at least the commercials are boat related....

http://portocalltv.com/

So far, I've seen all of the episodes and there mostly re-runs anyway......but in the middle of the winter, any boating related TV show is welcome...

We were at Water's edge to celebrate New Years....10 couples from my neighborhood.....

I saw some interest in making the trip to NJ... depending on schedules, we are interested on getting together. That sounds like a great time!

Here are my dates :

7/27/07 Leave home dock to Schooner Island Marina: 2 nights
Friday night and Saturday night stay
Depart early Sunday morning.
This leg of the trip is a MM Getaway

7/29/07 Leave Schooner Island Marina to BIH: 2 nights
Sunday night and Monday night stay
Depart early Tuesday morning.

7/31/07 Leave BIH to Atlantic City: 2 nights.
Tuesday and Wednesday stay
Depart Thursday late morning

8/2/07 Leave Atlantic City to Home Dock

Well....I got a call from MM this afternoon. They had to reschedule their getaway to Schooner Island Marina. Apparently the local Mayor wanted to use the marina for some other township get together and the politics won over.

The new dates for the MM Schooner Getaway are 7/20-21-22. That would push everything up a week......there goes the Yankee game....I'll have to poke around a bit and see if the O's are even in town the previous week.....

The date change is actually a mixed blessing for us....about a week after you announced the dates, my wife informed me that that was the weekend we had to take my daughter to camp :smt021 . Now we may be able to go!
