.......I liken it to my SCUBA diving... whenever I tell someone I dive year round in NE they look at my like I'm nuts... They don't know what they are missing.

Of course you explain to these people the concept of a thermal, a depth not very deep were below this line the water stays the same temperature year round,….right?

Round here we take a chain saw, cut a square in the ice, push the square under the remaining ice and away from the hole then jump in the hole. Real men do this without a dry suit.

That and visibility. Most people react thinking there is nothing to see. When I explain there is every bit as much color as in the Keys or Carribean, they are shocked. It's just that you don't get the 100'+ visibility, your limited to 30-40' on good days and you need to add light to bring out the colors...

I took my Rescue Diver certification years ago in Feb off Gloucester. Water was 38 deg, air was 15 deg. Did it all in wet suit.
