Todd, I bought the nkd116's. The big boys. $156.00 for a pair. I have 4 cockpit speakers + subwoofer. I think i will hook them up and see what i think(more importantly what the Admiral thinks) and go from there. Thanks Guys for the help. JC
Run the AMP you have as a single channel to the Sub, then get a nice 400W 4 channel AMP for the MB"s and your Admiral will thank you!

JC3 Hello guy I recently was able to do some research on these speakers nd plus my step son is the manager of the car audio dept at Curcuit city, he's one of the best audio men I've seen, from him I was able to purchase KICKERS new marine speakers 6 1/2, matched with a 750 watt 5 channel KICKER amp and 12 inch subwoofer. Never in my days of Audio have I heard speakers like these. I can rock the beaches with no distortion or play my Micheal Buble at low volumes and here every note and twnag clearly.
The speakers are rated at 200 watts each and I only installed 1 each side of my radar arch and lower cockpit speakers holes from the factory. Also, these are 100 % sealed speakers for the marine applications, trust me, you will not be dissatisfied.

After Serious Study ....

Upon inspecting my speakers which seemed to have died, I popped off a grill only to watch the cone crumble like confetti. Not a reapir to put off any longer and maybe an upgrade opportunity.

After checking out the choices in West's listening room, I'd tried to use those $139 dollar a pair things but they were too deep for the arch, so .... I went with drop in replacements for the old Clarions and put in SONY Marine Speakers Model 1610, $70 bucks a pair, and a Clarion Sub woofer replacement for $149. West Marine gave me two years add'l replacement warrnatee in the bargain ... Total replacement cost $289.00 plus Tax, three year warrantee!

The swap was literally drop in the speakers hole pattern was even identical !

My "Tin Ear" is happy again.

Chad, Not to move the tread but when you heading to Paradise? JC

I'm also in the market for new speakers as my Clarion dual cone CM1600s are getting overpowered by the amp (400w). I was all set to buy 3 pr. of the Clarion CM1625s until I found this tread. I'm now seriously concidering the MB Quart NKA 116s instead. What keeps me waffling is that I can't find a store to listen to the MB Quarts. The write ups sound comparable, but all that means squat if you can't listen to them. I've heard the Clarions at West Marine and they sound decent, but not great. So, my question to those that recommend the MB Quart NKA 116s, are they worth the extra $40 a pair over the Clarions? No one has recommended the Clarions, so I thought I'd throw this out just to be sure. Thanks for the feedback.

The Clarions are not in the same league as the MB Quarts. That said, just about any speaker will sound mediocre in the display at West Marine. This probably holds true for most car stereo shops as well.

If you are really interested in sound quality, try the non-marine MB Quarts. They are probably much better sounding than the marine speakers and cost the same or slightly more.

Unless your speakers are routinely doused with salt water, you would not see a difference between a quality car speaker and a marine speaker. Just look for non paper cones and rubber surrounds.

My $0.02

I think so. I'll buy them again, when I'm ready.
Best of luck.

I purchased a pair of Pioneers from boaters world on clearence and installed them in the cockpit. Before I bought them I tried all the different speakers on the wall they had. You could push a button next to the speaker to turn on/off. To me, they sounded the best. I have a poly planer stero in the cabin. I am sure you could more high end and and run amps and subs with crossovers. But I get great highs and lows with the speakers. They also had the best range on the spec sheet. Just my .02
