Glad you made it home safe and sound. As always it's better be safe than sorry. You know your comfort level and you did what you felt best for you and this was a good decision. As you build up your "sea legs" your comfort level and your boat knowledge will rise. As you know, the boats can handle much more than the crew. Number of years ago when I still had my 240DA I took 2 of my buddies on a fishing trip in a small craft advisory about couple mile out of Manasquan inlet. I explained to them the possibility of discomfort and if they felt ok with it we'd go out and return back as soon as someone doesn't feel comfortable any longer. We were drifting in solid 3-4'ers and obviously there were occasionally 5'ers. We fished for couple of hours until one of the guys said that he didn't feel good. I turned the boat around and jumped back in to the inlet where we stayed for another hours or so to finish our fishing adventure. All in all, I was simply impressed in the boat's handling the conditions. It was the first one for me and it was great learning experience. This trip was a great lesson for me as a captain. Fast forwarding couple of years later, I'm coming back from a trip to Upstate NY on my 320DA. It's just me and my wife going from Staten Island back to Toms River. The forecast was calling for 2-3'ers with 10kts wind, I said to myself, piece of cake. Oh well, it was totally different. The wind was about 20kts and the seas were 4-5'ers with 6'ers once in a while and we caught few much larger ones as well. I'll never forget one moment when my wife looked at me as we entered these waves and asked if we'll be alright? I explained to her that based on my experience this is just a bumpy ride for this boat and I have all the confidence that I'll get us home safe. She said that thank God we left the kids at my Mom in SI, but I could see that her comfort level was much better after my small talk.

By all means, I'm not suggesting you do the same and take your boat out in a small craft advisory, but when you get a chance (and have the right crew on the trip) don't hesitate to take a small step further in to slightly more challenging conditions. This will be a great learning experience as long as you don't do anything stupid.

Thanks for the push alex I will def be expanding my conditions next year. As I just want to enjoy the rest of this one. Thanks again

Ron,
I'd love to bro! Problem is that I am coaching 3 soccer games Saturday followed by my older guys football game against Sachem! This is a rematch of the only game his team lost last year, and the only game he missed because we were at watch Hill when they played Columbus Day weekend. I'm still hearing crap from my friends who went that I cost them the game!! LOL
