Just booked labor day weekend at belmar nj anybody interested? Also anybody been the're , any trouble spots once entering the inlet? Thanks

We are going south to Forked River, NJ for Labor day. I have never gone to Belmar, but I here their fuel prices are very good. It looks like a easy inlet from the Ocean, when we have passed it...

A few pointers. They have no CATV....bring dvds. If you have a digital TV with a glomex, you will be able to pick up a few OTA channels.

Don't bother packing an alarm clock....the fishing/charter boats will wake you up plenty early.

Fuel there is generally low....comparatively speaking...especially compared to LI. Plan your trip to fuel up there.

Plenty of Restaurants within walking distance right on Main street.

Not much to do in the immediate area. Walk, or bike, to the beach. They are supposedly rebuilding the entire marina area. I think the mini golf and tiki bar may already be completed.

Entering/exiting the inlet, if you need bridge openings, can be a tad stressfull during the peak times with all the fishing/charter boats. Be patient...keep an eye out. Stay in the well marked channels and you'll have plenty of water under the boat. BUT...if you get in during heavy ebb or flow, docking can get 'interesting'.

Have fun...Belmar is a great town.

Watch the currents under the bridges. Nothing unmanageable, just need to be aware that the water can be moving deceptively quickly. Like Dom said, docking can be a bit of a challenge if currents and wind are not your friends that day.

Thanks everybody I don't think I would need any bridge openings unless there really low??

Td
I have a friend I meet at liberty landing rondevou that invited me and I wanted to do something different. Been at fi a'll summer

X...you will need the RR bridge to open. Generally it stays open unless a train is coming. If it's down, you'll just have to wait. It doesn't open on demand.

Ok well Friday I'm looking to leave around noon after wwork there calling for 2 -3 footers building 3-5 later on. I'm comfortable doing it but will my boat b able to handle it. Or should I leave Thursday afternoon around 5 In 2-3 foot seas?

Just something different. Oh and had a bad experience at fLynn's 2 weekend's ago. The dock masteer put Me in a slip at high tide. East side outside last slip to the south. Went to bed woke up listing hard to port went outside and I was in a foot of water. A.c. on and all had a hand full of sand in strainer couldn't use my a.c. all weekend and had to have the system flushed. Went inside told them the deal, they came outside to look and actually laughed in my face. And said " that sucks you should have checked you know tides go up and down over here. There's nothing we can do" not even a free drink. T here excuse was well there's a boat twice your size right next to you why didn't he hit. We are not responsible for damaged boats. Shouldn't they be responsible for o putting someone in deep enough water? Dock master said I thought you would only draw 20 inches. Such b.s. so u dunno how I feel about going back there.

Now I can't wait to visit this place....

Jonathon, unfortunately this one has to be along those "learning the hard way" lessons in your book. Sometimes we make assumptions, and as you can see, in this case it wasn't the right thing to do. In the way this idiot is right, it's your responsibility to keep an eye on the tides and make sure your boat floats regardless where anyone puts you. I hope all the sand has been flushed.

Alex. Yea I understand I should have looked thanks for ribbing it in lol. But in my defense. They I thought I was pulling in at low tide yes my fault again but the dock master shouldn't b putting any vessel of any size in 3 feet at high tide. But yes I get your point. It's my boat my investment I sshould no better. And yes a.c. was flushed and working properly just dunno how long it was on for with the sand in it.

Atleast a free night, dinner or even a free beer would have been nice. But I don't like to knock on anybody's business especially being a business owner myself so I will say that other that his (my) screw up that one time the Dock master is very good at what he does other than his really dirty sneakers all over the boat. And the place is alot of fun. So any bad advertising I may have incurred I apologize . One mmisfortune out of very many visits is not bad

todd,
what are the odds of getting a slip @ wh for sunday / monday? or sat pm
any chance?

Trust me you're not alone. I've seen multimillion dollar yachts sitting in the mud with bow thrusters above water line. I even snapped some pix as I was simply shocked. This was in CT where the tide swing around 7'-9'.
