i need help. just replaced all three batteries and went on shore power to check everything out on the boat. the battery charger has no lights on it and doesnt seem to be getting power. everything else"fridge, micro" all power up. and yes the switch is on at the main panel. not sure if its related but i also cant get my bilge lights on. i can hear something click when i push the bilge light button but no light. doesnt look like any fuses are blown. any ideas?

Masilobes,
The guys on this board are good. Real good. But they may need some more details before they can help. I'll be interested in the solution, so I'll bump this thread...

Were you unplugged with the battery switches off during the swap? Does selecting a different battery configuration (1/2/both), make any difference? Was everything working before the battery replacement? There are likely a few breakers in the bilge, is this what you are referring to when you say no blown fuses? Did you replace the batteries with the same type battery? Any chance at all you did not hook the batteries exactly as they were before the swap?

ps.. I just noticed its midnight. Oh well, tomorrow will be here soon enough.

i just bought the boat in october and there were no batteries on it. we brought a battery for the survey but nothing was tested with the shore power. the battery leads were laid out as if there were batteries there . so hooking them back up was pretty straight forward. i did notice a sticker saying there was a overload fuse in the unit so i will trry that today. as for the lights, could they be like christmas lights where one bulb goes and the others down the line go to? 1/2/0r both makes no difference. i put west marines dual purpose deep cranking / starting batteries and like i said everything else works fine.

It sounds like you have more than one problem here. The battery charger operates on 120 volts. If the breaker is on, then check to see if a GFCI receptacle has popped. Do a reset and then check to see if power is coming out of the receptacle that the charger is plugged into. Your bilge lights will be on the 12 volt system. They are not wired like Christmas tree lights. Take the bulbs out and check for voltage at each light socket before you go any further.

Simple first. Put a test meter across the 120v leads coming to the charger. No power- go look for tripped breaker or disconnected wire. Power- bad charger. Diagnose the light the same way. I doubt the two issues are related.
Could it be the charger had failed for the last owner and that's why the batteries were removed? They failed?

yes its the ac converter switch thats on. waiting for neighbor to get home to use his meter to check power at the charger and make sure the swith isnt bad. theres obviously power to the panel but if switch is bad??

Checking power at the charger would be the next logical move. Just FYI, you can get a basic multi voltage meter at Harbor Freight for $4.

ive got power at the charger so its fried. good news though, opened the three bilge lights, one missing bulb and the other two burnt out. atleast one thing will be cheap to fix!!

took the whole charger out and took it apart. blown buss fuse on the circuit board. gonna try a electronics repair place to see if they can solder in a new one. otherwise $350 for new

called progressive dynamics, the maker of the charger and they can fix it. its a discontinued model now but they have factory refurbished ones for $280. it gets better, they also gave me $150 for the old one. so with shipping $150 bucks and its already back in the boat charging away.
