I have a '99 F250 SD that has the full Banks Power Package along with the transcommand installed. The other day I went to get gas and noticed my transcommand was hanging under the vehicle. When I went to inspect, this is what I found....
The transcommand box is aluminum and the bracket is steel. Add some water to the mix and you have a nice battery since dissimilar metals are in contact with each other. That makes for some nice galvanic corrosion. I called Banks and they are asking for a receipt to show proof of purchase. I told them I do not have one. I asked if they could look up the manufacture date by the serial number or some other coding on the product - They can not. I mentioned that it was pretty hard to confuse this unit with any other product because their name is on the unit. Banks said their transcommand units only come with a 2 year warranty (I told them it may be over 2 years since purchased). I stated nicely that regardless if the unit comes with a 2 year warranty or not, did they expect that when the bracket corrodes off that the purchaser is expected to buy a new unit? They didn't have anything to say. I told them I had pictures and could send them their way for review. They didn't want to see the pictures? The way I see it, the issue is with the product design, not the performance of the unit. I feel they should warranty it even if it's outside the warranty period.
What do you guys think?
