Wondering if anyone has a resolution for a background noise (low humm noise) in the my 12v sterio system. Everything is factory original. It is coming from the battery charger. The boat is a 1997 400 Sea Ray.

Re: Background noise in my stereo system

I have the same problem with my 1996 330 Sundancer and it drives me CRAZY !!!! Does anyone know what how to filter it out ???

Try the SN1 ground loop isolator. It connects in your audio cables. I had hum and engine noise through my speakers and I installed these (took 5 minutes) and all noise gone. You can buy these at Amazon and other places. Just Google. You can also do a search at this site for "audio hum". It has been discussed many times.

You should be able to pick the SNI adaptors at any car stereo outlet or even at Best Buy also. They are quite common.

Not sure on the theory as to how these bad boys work, but they do. Reasonably priced and super easy to install, just clip onto your speaker wire just before the speaker. Ran them on my front, back and subwoofer speakers and took the hum right out. Originally was getting it whenever the fridge went on. Spent a month of Sundays looking for a bad ground somewhere without any luck. Another bud turn me on to them. Product #217341

Thanks all for the help, but I have one more question..... exactly where inline do you install the filter, at the charger/inverter or between the receiver and the amp?

Ground loop isolator may help as indicated by others. You could also make sure your radio is grounded correctly or may have some corrosion on it.

If you or the PO installed LED's, they may cause RF leakage and cause background noise as well. A ferrous ring around the LED wires may help if that is the case.

If VHF also has the background noise, it would lend more credence to RF leaking LED's...

I mounted mine at the amp output audio connectors. Just unplug at the amp and plug into the isolator (SN1) and you are good to go. Took 5 minutes
