Back Surgery

Good Luck & Speedy Recovery! I'm ten weeks since my L3/L4 microdiscectomy and still healing. Physical therapy is your friend when you're ready. I started last week and am learning how to stretch and workout correctly so I hopefully won't screw up my back anymore!

Everything went great! The L3 L4 and L5 are now fused. The surgeon also found two loose screws from my previous fusion so he took care of that while he was in there. I am up and able to walk with no pain. I am thrilled beyond belief! Have to wait about 6 weeks for therapy to start plus he wants me to heal a little more.

Glad to hear things went well, but I can't help but say something about you having a screw loose.
I had some screws installed in my foot mid November. It's been a winter of recovery for me. I finally got the all clear last week.
The foot still hurts, but the reason for the surgery is fixed.(bunion)
He said it'd be a 12-18 months to quit hurting, and the swelling to go down completely.

@Blueone Looking at that X-Ray, structurally, they are just "Practicing" right?

I've had this one for at least 30 years. It finally got bad enough that I could barely walk most times. I did tell the Dr that he got a little crazy with the screws, and the main incision as well.
It sure feels better though.

Great news. Wish those surgeons knew about loctite.

Glad to hear you are recovering! I had back surgery back in November and am just now starting to feel better. (S1-L5, L5-L4 revision laminectomy) The original laminectomy I had two years ago, which ironically saved my life by finding my renal cancer, failed back in September when I ruptured the discs again.

Unfortunately now my right knee is acting up a bit after a lot of riding on the peloton, so I am a bit irritated. I did finally get back to flying the line again this month, soon to be an OE check airman, so there's that....

Hope your recovery continues to go smoothly and finds you out on the boat again soon.

All kidding aside, surgery should be the last resort. I’ve had 3x knee scopes. 2 on one, once the other. I wish I just rehabbed.

When the time comes I’ll get stem cell transplant. Use my own and cross my fingers.

It was the only thing that helped Peyton Manning. Insurance won’t cover it which should tell you everything regarding its efficacy.

Geez …..you have had a rough ride the last few years….. hang in there

#7 yesterday and almost pain free. They want to work on L3-4 again for some pain in my left thigh.

I forgot to mention at the.beginning that I’m sure 9 years of flying Navy fighters and pulling G’a along with one ejection didn’t help my back!!

So to close this out - yesterday I had my 8th disk surgery. At 6 PM I came off the operating table with NO PAIN whatsoever!! Slept the entire night through with no pain, we drove back to Ft. Myers from Hudson, FL (where Bonati Spine Institute is located), and I’ve had my first day in 5 months and 3 days (who’s counting) with no pain!! What a relief.

I’ve totally worn my sweet wife Susan out caring for me. Boy do I owe her!!

Looking forward to getting back on the boat in May in Chattanooga. Looking at the Ft Myers marina rebuilds, and I’m worried it will be 3 years before Reward has a marina agin down here.
