I have been doing some shopping around and have found Geico to be the lowest. How are they as an insurance company, and is there anyone cheaper? Right now I'm with State Farm, but Geico quoted me $55/month lower for the same coverage.

Hey Mike,

I have been with Geico for many years. I have never had an issue. They have always been extremely prompt and always taken care of everything, rentals cars, going after other insurance companies, etc...

I have been with Geico for a number of years. I have had a couple accidents, one serious where i was at fault and totaled my car and the other person's vehicle, and they handled it all very well. More than fair settlement and best of all no hassels. I recently have taken advantage of their tow service and was also pleased.

I usually say that price is not everything when it comes to insurance but it sounds like people who have had claims experience like the way it was handled and that is one of the most important things when picking an insurance company.

The other is financial stability. I would never want to go with a company that is below A and Geico is A++ so they should be financially secure.

My biggest gripe with Geico is them trying to steer thier customers to use thier shops when there is an accident.

There are COUNTLESS lawsuits against the major insurance companies such as Geico, Allstate and State Farm for steering thier customers to use certain shops.

I am not making this stuff up either.
They use tactics like saying the repair wont be guranteed, or that they wont pay the whole claim, or that the payment wont be processed as quickly.

It is THE LAW for you to use the shop of your choice, they cannot TELL you what shop to use, they must also, by law, process and settle your claim within a reasonable amount of time.

When a insurance company pays the claim quickly its not because they are being nice guys, its because they have to by law, so lets not use them paying quickly as a basis to use them for insurance.

My other problem with Geico- is they told me a rate, then 2 months into the policy they raised it- for NO REASON, they just told me "the policy has gone up", I dropped them refusing to pay the increase and chose to lose my down payment.
When does it end?

The whole insurance industy is out of control, our lawmakers need to step up help us out.

Ha! Try buying a house in Florida and see what your insurance company says to you then! Can you say Dropped!

I don't mind using THEIR shop. As long as they DO the work!

I had a house issue once. They sent an adjuster. Being Naive,

I asked "Do you have any recommended contractors".
Answer: "I can do the work."
My response: "Oh really? When"
Answer: "Next week good for you"?

Ten days later. . .done deal. All fixed. One form to sign. One small check for a non-covered UPGRADE. Required repainting half the house. I was very, very happy.

:smt017 Not the place for me to argue govt insurance vs private sector although I would love too...I will say this as it kinda relates to boaters. Take a look at what the lawmakers did when they decided that the govt should handle flood insurance because the private sectors would abuse the system. Ok back on topic....

When my wife was in an accident, we called Geico, they dispatched a tow truck immediately... They asked me where "I" wanted the truck taken for repair. I told them a local dealer I knew well, they didn't question or hesitate to take it there. I have never had them push me to take a vehicle anywhere, they have always asked me where I wanted it taken to. Just FYI.

With my wife's recent truck theft, one little issue which #&@^$*$^%* me off was that once the truck was recovered and we knew that they had taken it with the spare key they acqurired from inside My truck :smt013 When we got the truck back I wanted to change the locks  they said, that is not covered :smt018 unless the locks were damaged :smt017 I said that doesn't make sense, I asked- :smt014 "wouldn't you want to mitigate the risk of it being stolen again ?

They said no.....lucily being a locksmith I can do it, but was hoping the cost would have been covered. More out of pocket for me :smt089 . My Insurance company? - Allstate. I have been with them over 20 years.

So I am considering calling the Caveman and asking them some ?????'s like hey if my truck is stolen....and they somehow get my keys.....are these services/costs covered.

You should talk to some body shop owners, there is a ton of info out there about the illegal practices of some insurance companies.

Truth be told the average person has now become worried to ruffle the feathers of the insurance companies out of fear of them being dropped.

Boaters and waterfront property owners have it bad now. :smt009

There is a lawsuit pending on California that some minorites feel that adjusting rates by zip codes is a form of racisism!

Few years ago I moved 3 times in 3 years, had the same insurance company- had the same job. All 3 places were 5 minutes from each other- and my insurance rates were adjusted 3 times with a $300 swing?

Guess I should stop this insurance company discussion before I start going off topic

Rob, trust me, I am not arguing that bad things don't and aren't happening. My point is that Geico has never pressured me or steered me to a particular body shop. I was just sharing my personal experiences.

The significant other had Geico until recently. Honestly, they were a great company for her with payment on one stolen car and one fairly major accident.

We recently combined vehicles and we went with my state farm policy. For some reason Geico's rate quotes were consistently 25-30% more than state farm in our area for same coverage despite two clean driving records etc.

your states may not have a strong DRP program yet.
Once they do Geico will steer you to thier shops and use
thier scare tactics.
