I was just in San Diego last Sat and saw this thing sitting in San Diego bay. It's truly a one of a kind work of art vessel.

Crazy! How in the world does this happen in the open ocean?

That's Dennis Washington's yacht (one of 7 beautiful ones he owns). I flew his BBJ (Boeing Business Jet) for him for a number of years after I retired from Delta. He and his wife Phyllis are the nicest people you could ever meet. He was penniless at age 30 and he made his fortune through good old hard work. Construction, mining, rail, shipyards and aviation among others.

That's awesome to hear they're such nice people. I read up on him after the broker I was with told me his story last weekend. Fascinating! Started with one bulldozer and $30K loan.

Thanks exactly right! 1964 - he was 30. 5 years later, he was the largest general contractor in Montana...He built and donated the stadium at the Univ of Montana and he and Phyllis give 100 scholarships there each year. She graduated there, he is a HS graduate...

I saw his yacht in Cabo a few years ago, and looked it up. He most certainly does have a good story of his life achievements.

I'm usually surprised to hear that billionaires are actually nice people. I think that flies in the face of the view many of us have of them.

This will be interesting to watch as the USCG investigates it.

Love that boat and know it well. DW lives here in B.C. during the summer. The Attessa IV and original Attessa are docked May-October right outside our Marina in North Vancouver.

Actually the other Attessa is III. Atessa I was used in the movie Overboard and Attessa II was used in the movie Indecent Proposal. He no longer owns I and II. Atessa is a name he made up - he said it sounds like a beautiful Italian woman’s name!!

Ironically here is a photo I took in July of the yacht being used in the 2018 “Overboard” remake (right, renamed “Birthday Present” for the film) docked next to Attessa IV. They were filming portions of the new film here this summer.
