I recently installed the Apeiron Tri Color Lights (screw attach, not spring) on the Arch of my 33 Sundancer and noticed that there is a small gap around the perimeter of the light when the Chrome face plate is attached (We are talking 2mm, enough space for a spider to make a home). Has anybody had a similar issue and how did you fill the gap. I thought about Marine sealant but that eliminates the serviceability of the light for cleaning waxing etc. My brother-in-law installed the light on his 28 Dancer and the same condition exists.

Any ideas?

I'm trying to follow you- I'm assuming you're saying they're supposed to be screw attached- but you have nothing to screw "to" because the existing hole is 2mm larger all the way around? You said you "installed" them but I can't figure out what you screwed them to if the hole is larger than the light...

If so, all I can think of is a trim ring cut to about 1/2" dia. larger than your existing hole. This would leave you 1/4" all the way around to fasten the mounting screws, and cover the holes from your existing lights at the same time (I think).

I'd try some 1/4" white Seaboard or Starboard, using two hole saws of the appropriate diameter.

The screw-in light has that gap. Its very annoying. I try to talk people into the spring mount kind because they sit more flush. There is a gasket kit they now offer to fill in that gap. Its nothing more than a pre-cut piece of foam. And they are like $8/ea! The light will still be raised off the surface as it is now, the foam just fills in the space.

On the serviceability thing. There is nothing serviceable about them. They will most likely outlast the boat, but there are no bulbs or anything to replace. Servicing the fixture would mean replacing the fixture. You might try some white silicone around the base.

I believe I know what you are talking about. I installed the same lights on my 280 and the size of the hole is just a little smaller than the lights so when you put the trim ring on there is a little gap between the trim ring and the fiberglass. Fortunately when I ordered mine only the white trim ring was available so a thin bead of caulk around mine finished it off nicely. The only way to get them to flush mount completely would be to enlarge the hole a little bit with some sort of dremel tool. It would not take much, just a little bevel to the edge. Good luck.

Does anyone have a pic with them installed? Both day and night? I've been thinking of changing mine. The factory lights get pretty hot!

All, thanks for the responses.

Jim, I believe I talked to you over the phone and you mentioned the spring mounted lights. However the hole size in my radar ach would have had to be increased and I did not feel like messing around with cutting aluminum, But, based on your response on serviceability I will be caulking them into place. No worries!

Groucho, I will take some pictures this weekend (in-between the rain drops here in Lake St Clair, Michigan) and post them.

Any one have pictures yet. I am thinking about this install on a 2001 310 Sundancer. Not sure if screw on or spring fit is for me?

I said I would take some pictures back in September! Looks like I dropped the Ball. I will take some pictures this weekend. Maybe tonight if I have an oppertunity.

I have some pics on my phone and will try to get on here when I'm not at the office. I installed red and blue rope lighting under where the courtesy(?) lights are around the helm so I can match all the lights to the mood. I'll try oget them up later today. I agree with the gap issue but it has not really been noticable to anyone except me.

Also I had a dickens of a time installing the ring. (make sure you don't have one of the screws at even a slight angle... :smt101)

Don't think these are going to come out very well but I'll give it a try.

I just changed all 6 of the OEM lights to the Apeiron LED and love them! Yes, there is a small gap with the screw mount. ( I will be adding the gaskets). Also, on some of the holes, I had to use a sanding drum to enlarge the hole a little bit. Overall, it was a very easy project.

Just installed these lights...they are awesome. I have some pics I will upload tonight. They are from my iphone so not the greatest at night but you will get the idea. Love them.

Thanks for the pics. One final question. Would you recommend the spring clip OR the screw in mounts. I have a 2001 Sundancer and will be mounting them in the arch.

I kind of like the screw in ones myself. With the trim ring set off the arch a little it gives each light a halo around the light fixture, think it is kind of a neat effect.

Do you have to install an addional switch to change color, or just cycle the switch on the dash? I looked at the wiring diagram and it showed a "MOM" switch inline, which I assume means "Momentary".

We use our existing switch at the helm. Works fine for us. THe light have an off position so there is moment when the switch will be on but no light. Toggle switch on and off and the light switches, off, red, white, blue, off red, etc. I think that is the order in which they switch.

Damn I want them now! I simply changed the bulbs last year but always wanted to change them up. That would be a great solution. How much are they a piece???
