Anything other than alernator?

Last Saturday I was cleaning out the boat prior to taking the boat out of the water on Thursday, and I started the engines just for S&G's, and I noticed the port side alternator gauge was pegged. Anything possible other than the alternator it self? It was new in the spring. I'm thinking of getting my mechanic to take a look before it comes out of the water, but he's probably backed up with winterizations.

Possibly the gauge or a bad connection somewhere.

what happened to the other alternator?.....is it possible the same thing has happened to the new one?.....

Did you tap on the gage? I would put a volt meter on the alternator and check out reading... If you were pegged you should have blown the fuse on your starter...

This spring during the sea trial before I bought the boat, we noticed the same issue, and the broker who owned the boat, put a new alternator in. Problem solved until now. I know it was a new alternator, having seen the before and after. I think I need to get out my multi meter and remember how to test an alternator from my old auto parts store days. Then I'll know if the gauge and the alternator match.

We do love it, and we had a great summer with a trip to Put In Bay in lake Erie, and a trip to Lexington on Lake Huron.

Check the connection at the starter selanoid. Thats usually where the voltage regulator is and if that connection or the regulator is bad the charge from the alternator will go unchecked.
