Just wondering if anyone has seen or bought the new Polk PA450UM Marine Stereo yet?

Looks like it could be a nice unit.

Pete

The Fusion stereo's for marine applications are the best you can currently get.

There are tons of complaints about Fusion on the net, which makes me shy away. There are very few Bluetooth capable units that have a wired remote on the market, but this Polk is a new one and the spec look good and the operation seems easy compared to the difficult Clarion M502 I will be selling.

There are ton's of complaints about Clarion,Alpine,Polk, Sony on the net too. Yeah, if you read it on the internet, you just have to believe it.

The best marine Head unit is a Alpine CDA9886M. Hands down. 4v output 3 inputs and RF remotes. Excellent sound quality!

I don't think that model is made anymore and I don't think it has bluetooth.

That said, one of the features I really like about my Alpine is the usb connection. I find the BT connection a little difficult unless it's close to the unit. I had the same issue with another brand BT.

I love the RF wireless remotes. Much more versatile than an IR or fix-mounted remote.

I can sit on the bow and make changes...

It does have bluetooth, crutchfield still has some and dealers in CA have them they are getting scarce!! The alpine was over engineered for the marine industry, so that was the reason for the high price point.

Peter, I don't know too much about stereos, but a customer just recently asked me to order a Jensen MS2013BTR for him. He did his own research and just wanted me to get it for him. I did notice that it has bluetooth and has an optional, wired remote. That's 'bout all I know, though.

I belive mrtopgun knows his stuff, about audio.hows the test going ?

Finished it yesterday. Sent it out today and I picked up a money order for you. Might be heading up on Thursday someone from Cleveland is interested in buying the Boat, Pray to The boat gods it gets Sold!! Bring on the 40DA.

I have been on the hunt for a replacement for an XMD1. Was hoping I could avoid running new remote wires. This looks like a winner. Thanks BT Guy

No worries......

Here is all you need:

Alpine:
1-800-257-4631

rue-m1rf - RF Remote system (need only one and it comes with an RF remote)
RUE-M1EX - This is the model number for extra remotes if you want more.

I bought three remotes....

To program the extra remotes all you do is connect the orange wire on the remote system to 12v power and press any button on the remote. It will pair and that's it. Then disconnect the orange wire. Super simple....

The 9886m requires an external Bluetooth adapter, further escalating the price. I also found the volume knob a bit touchy to use while underway. Pushing the knob in brings up a menu and deactivates the volume control function. If I was driving along and wanted to quickly turn down the volume, about half the time I would end up pushing in the knob accessing what ever menu function was next. Now my attention is drawn away from navigating and I'm screwing around with my radio.

My head unit was mounted at the helm of my 280ss. I did not have a remote control.
I would suggest using this unit only if you have a remote control at the helm.

On the Alpine marine website they don't list any head units or remotes, only speakers and amplifiers. Have they abandoned the market?

Its a great unit. Get a remote. Or use your tablet to run the stereo, and stay away from the remotes and use your smart phone from someone boat or dock.It will amaze them. And yes this head unit will allow you to do that feature. Good Luck

Your link to the Alpine website indicates that it is a discontinued product for them. It looks like there might be some inventory on eBay but my question remains the same.

The website states (discontinued) no direct bluetooth, no docking for i devices, no video out, no nmea 2k, why would you pay $500 for this unit ?? Where's the attraction?

Alpine pulls product from the website all the time call directly. Great tech support. They still are selling all the remotes and rf MX20 system? Not sure if thats the wrong part #. Also new products are getting ready to roll out in Jan for the CES show. The rockford fosgate head unit is a good performer. It used to be made by AC Delco of GM. But its Ugly looking.
