Found this website that sells misters for installation on boats. The mist is supposed to cool the area misted by around 25 degrees. Has anyone tried this? I'd be curious what you guys think....good idea or not for a 240 Sundeck?

Would love to be a little cooler in the heat of the summer!

You can buy a simple mister kit at Sams for like 20 bucks already put together. I have one on my pier and it works great. The only downfall is you and everything around you gets wet.

I maybe missing something, but if you're on the boat anchored someplace, it's hot out and you're surrounded by water, why not jump in to cool off and have a nice swim? Or better yet, jump on a cool float and chill.

Nope, but now I'm considering it. Sometimes the mistress just doesn't want to get in the water or the jelly fish are so thick you can't get in. I wonder what the capacity is through the nozzle...

....or the jelly fish are so thick you can't get in....

This would be the time to choose different location. I just don't see boating if you can't get in to water, unless it's a short term occasion like beginning of spring or late fall. Jellies are present in our area as well, but this is where we travel to further destinations where the water is saltier and a little colder for jellies to be 3' apart from each other (like they're in fresher and warmer water, which is where we're in).

We boat in the middle of the Chesapeake, and my experience has been, there is no getting away from them. We have a jelly pool that we use but there poorly designed and a PITA... probably works really well in a lake (where there aren't any jelly fish) but normal currents from tide flow is enough to challenge its ability to maintain its shape...

I was under the impression that misters worked better in dry heat locations like Arizona. Its so freaking humid here I hate to consider putting more moisture in the air.

I wonder if that Mister was installed on a boat, would the water pump have enough pressure to make it work? How many mister nozzles would you be able to have, and how many GPH does it use? Would you be out of fresh water in just a few hours?

I don't recall the gph, but was only looking at maybe 5 mist nozzles since I was going to try to make it portable and easy to clip into the top frame. I don't think I would want to use the fresh water pump for a system like this. It probably is not designed for continuous duty. The company does offer booster pumps of different sizes, both DC and AC models. I had considered getting a booster pump and add a separate, small fresh water tank and just use it periodically when desparately hot.

Thanks everyone for input! Doesn't look like this may be such a good idea or someone would have surely tried it and let us know. It has just been so darn HOT! Getting tired of getting in and out of the lake to keep cool. Sometimes it is nice to just relax on the boat and let the waves rock you to sleep.

I was thinking the same thing. That would work great here in New Mexico.

I installed a misting system on my back porch last summer to get people to stay outside longer. Well....it doesn't work. Actually, it does, but no one wants to be hot, AND wet in their clothes. The humidity is the killer of these systems. You just can't get it to mist fine enough to not get everything and everyone wet in just minutes. It'd be the same on a boat. Probably works well in Arizona.

I'm surrounded by Jellyfish too in the summer. Sucks bigtime. Last weekend, we anchored out with some friends and the kids had a great time playing in the water off the boat. But anytime now, that activity will be done for, unless we travel well upriver on the Potomac to get away from them....

The Nettle Net works well for us, but any current will deform it somewhat.

Been checking these things out but decided we don't want everything to get wet. I saw a mini-misting 2-fan unit on the overton.com site. Might check that out. Don't know if you have one or not but if we don't want to get in the water, we'll spray ourselves with the transom washdown sprayer or the cockpit sink sprayer to cool off a bit. The pump only runs when it's spraying. If ya get hot again, spray yourself again. Almost like a quick dip without all the work of getting on/off the boat. Sometimes we'll back down the ladder, hang on and submerge long enough to cool off.

Now an integrated mister behind a fan may just work. There may be enough airflow there to really atomize the water. I would probably risk trying that out, instead of just the misting kit itself.
