I recently found out that a bunch of my close friends (in our 40's) are all on facebook. The concept seems a bit strange to me. Anyone here at CSR on there? What's the story. seems like nothing more than a place to brag and one-up old high school/college friends. or am I missing something?

nope, that pretty much sums it up. Once you're bored with that, you can add a myspace page, twitter, loopt, Linked, i'm sure i'm forgetting a few 100 others. I think i get invites to these every day. it's Crazy!!! like there isn't enough ways to get ahold of me as it is now.

Gawd, no. I waste enough time here.

That's what I'm thinking. Between CSR, looking for the next boat, learning Spanish with Rosetta Stone, and sailing my virtual ragboat...... I spend enough time at the Mac s it is

Yeah, I'm on FB - it's great for planning raft off's and such as they have networks, i.e. South Florida Boating network. It's just a good way to keep in touch...

If there's any S.FL folks from CSR on FB, let me know and if you want, I'll add you to the previously mentioned network.

Yup, what turtle and frank said. I was on 'em, but I don't go there since I checked 'em out to see what it was all about. I find 'em boorrrriing.

Not yet but, I get asked all the time, for some reason all the realtor think they need a page. My 21 year old college daughter said I could not have one. She said it is just plain creepy when parents have one.

Age 40 seems to be the cutoff for almost everybody I know.

We had fun at Christmas: Had guests from out-of-town who knew we weren't on Facebook. Here we had a house full of Obama fans writing on the 'wall': "OMG, we're in the land of conservatives and horses" and complaining "no 3G, crappy Edge" and all kinds of neat stuff. Too stupid to figure out we had friends reading that stuff. Funny. Be careful what you put on there, as there is a wide audience.

(Of course, I'm guilty of the same now. If they read this, I suppose we're even ;)

Yes, and I'm over 40....Facebook is a great way to catch up with old friends-found some from high school and even elementary school I haven't spoken to in years as well as plan things with other friends.

...........can you imagine the carnage if we were all linked on Facebook?
My Brother's on it and asked if I had one. I said no, Like Frank said, I waste enough time here. Plus there's some things I don't want to know.

My wife signed me up, and I do have to say I have connected with some people that I havn't talked to in over 25 years (I am 41). It is a little bit of who can out do the other, but isn't that life any way... Busines wise it has been benificial, I have now connected with people I grew up with, and are in similar lines of business. It is just another form of opening a networking channel, In this economy it never herts...

Yeah, but WTF do you expect from Obummer voters. Liberals espouse to be the party of free exchange of ideas, acceptance of other people's way of life, etc. Bull. As soon as they can, they denigrate your lifestyle to make themselves look better.

I'm sorry you had that experience, but I'm sure you've been told worse things by better people so no skin off your back, right?

That's why I said "funny." We got a good laugh out of the whole thing, and even exposed them later in the visit.

While Facebook is a neat idea, I could care less if somebody I knew 25 years ago just put the turkey in the oven or just sat down in 2F on their way to New York. Now if they started talking boats, that would be interesting.

In a word, "NO!" It may be good for some, but to me and this is my opinion, it just appears as many are only on there attempting to seek someone's approval.

I have found that one of the hardiest things in life for many is just learning to be their self.

Good perspective. I may add that my brother, who was popular in high school, also uses it as a power-trip to reject that request for approval. He's proud of the 20 people he's still deciding whether to accept as friends. Freak'n high school stuff.

Kentucky....land of conservatives?:smt017

We have had 2 republican governors since 1947. (1967-71, 2003-07). While our democrats might be more conservative than in other parts of the country they are by no means "conservative"

Right up there in pretentiousness with the blog. When did so many people get the idea that their life was so interesting? Did you hear about ME? Did you see the latest pictures of ME? Yawwwwwwnnnnn......

Blogs in our case are not about ME. My wife and I both blog because we get a kick out of it...could care less who is reading them. It's also kind of an electronic journal for us, not for others, just so happens it's public. The bloggers that blog hoping someone is reading their blog annoy me.

Professionally I love blogs and they have become a great resource for me. A lot of employees at Microsoft have started blogging, sharing what's coming, what's new, etc and I find this very valuable in my industry.

Personally, I read a few, but most personal ones bore me.

Don't discount LinkedIn as I have found it to be a great professional resource.

My land is conservative :) These socialists gave us crap because we didn't separate the plastic from the cardboard on the Toys-R-Us boxes for recycling--I told them (sarcastically) they should just burn it out back. Then they complained that the ice water was too cold (WTF?), not good for the stomach--OMG! I suppose it is all relative. Sorry for taking this thread off topic.
