Anyone have big plans for New Year's Eve or New Year's Day?

@msquiet, been a couple of years since we were there on NYE, let us know if Suchi still drops in the red shoe at midnite.

First wife was from Grand Rapid, MN. They lived on a big lake (doesn't everyone in MN) and her dad was a big ice fisherman. Or more accurately a big hook watcher while drinking beer. Great guy. Was SO freaky the first time we drove a pickup on the lake. Always was uncomfortable with it.
I never liked driving on the ice either. Even when it was 3' thick I was driving with my window down getting ready to swim.

Headed to the boat, a buddy had to cancel his plans to dine at the yacht club so he gave me his tickets for the prime rib dinner. We will be taking it to go and having a nice dinner on the boat. Most everyone in our circle has been down with either a nasty cold or some level of covid. I am amazed actually that the club did not cancel the NYE Gala, Last year they were uber scared of the virus and clamped down hard. We have a new Commodore that is much more pragmatic though. I think he just is taking the approach of 'attend at your own risk and be as careful and responsible as you can be". I appreciate the approach, but I have just realized I don't miss participating in the gatherings. Sticking to smaller and intimate settings these days.
Happy New Year everybody

Lots of choices, forum members. Our first year as members, not just of the SR Forum, also a new Yacht Club. Cocktails starting at 18:30, catered dinner, dancing, and Casino tables in the bar. These YC members have become good friends, so we're eager to dress it up a bit, not likely to wear my deck shoes. Have not decided if we'll stay over on the boat, depends on consumption, the DD decision and the temps, perhaps into the thirties. NY Day will be filled with parade, bowl games, (ND at 10:00) champagne and all the rest of it!
Happy 2022 all!

Norte Dame used to be my favorite college football team and school. I even applied and was accepted into the school my Junior year of high school. But then I married my wife. Both her brothers and her dad went to ND. They think somehow that makes them hot sh1t and the smartest people on the planet. What they actually are is over educated jackasses who are actually dumbsh1ts. They are f'ng insufferable. They actually think that BC and Georgetown are just "schools people go to when they can't get into Notre Dame". F'ng dumbasses. (Later I'll tell you how I really feel:rolleyes:) There is a joke about domers:

Q: How can you tell if a guy went to Notre Dame?
A: Give him 15 seconds and he'll tell you.

Sorry for the hijack. We go to a friends house and he makes food all night and we eat. Mostly his native Philippine dishes, but also lobster bisque or crab rangoon. Usually only 8 - 10 of us. Only a couple miles from my house on back roads so amateur night is not really an issue. Low key, but enjoyable.

Plenty of U of M Wolverines are similar....

Funny thing, was telling a story last nite about a guy from Michigan to a friend and his wife, she told me I should have mentioned that Ann Arbor is a whore! Friends wife is a Wisconsin badger, must be something to the rivalry.

Reminds me of a story my Investment Professor told me. A ND grad, a Purdue grand and an IU grad apply for an accounting job at a big firm. The interviewer asks one question -- What's 2 plus 2? The Purdue grad gives some answer usining binary math -- 1.99999999999. The ND grad, thinking he's so smart and has got this, says, "4, of course." The IU grad looks around, thinks for a minute, leans in and says "whatever you want it to be." :)
