any other option besides cracked block?

hi, thanks for the info, is that picture of a 4.3? my engine doesnt look like that. my alternator is bottom right, and my power steering is top right i believe.
That just popped up in a search. Here's another.
My inboards have all been v8. Have just heard of this a few times living in the north.
Hopefully it is simple outcome for you.

thank you, i did pull off the intake manifold, and i dont see any cracks. what i did see i believe is the intake manifolds gaskets leaking possibly in multiple different areas. i also looked in the valley etc where most people have mentioned there would be cracks and i dont see anything. they had 3 of the 5 blue plugs out. 2 in the manifolds, and one bottom of the waterpump housing bend. the 2 that remaine din where the 2 in the lower area of the block. i had one casting plug on the starboard side popped out and laying on motor mount, and 2 on the port side, partially popped out which i removed and will be pressing in 3 new brass ones when they arrive later today. im crossing my fingers. i have parts coming in the next week or so (gauge, shrader valve, caps, plugs so i can pressure test the block to 20 psi later this week. engine looks really clean inside.

Sounds positive. The valley is a common spot as mentioned by others. There is also casting plugs in the back of the block behind the flywheel. Hopefully you don't have problems with those ones. Good luck!

yea im hoping the same. im also hoping enough water got out of the upper part of the engine when the blue plug was removed from the engine water pump bend to not have pushed those ones out in the back. alot of "hoping" going on here....lol

quick question, do you happen to know where on the rear of the 4.3l block those freeze plugs are? are they towards the top or the bottom? i was looking earlier but couldnt find anything about them.

found this quote on an s-10 forum, any truth to this?

"There are no freeze plugs at the back of your engine. The two plugs that are back there are at the back of the cam and balance shaft bores and do not open up into the water jacket."

hello, everyone, just wanted to start with a huge thankyou to everyone who helped guide me through the past few days. today was a great day. yesterday i installed the 3 casting plugs that fell out or were pushing out, and this morning i installed 2 new intake manifold gaskets. i am sooooo happy to report that i dont think i have any cracks in this block. wooohooo! i put the 3 blue plugs in and capped off the other 3 hoses and it held 20 psi. i didnt leave it hold to long, just a minute or so, but gauge didnt move at all. sooooo happy, thank you all again very much. just waiting for my exhaust flappers and new exhaust manifold conversion kit to wrap things up.
