Hey fellas, I have a 1976 SRV 240 Sundancer and I would like to get any information I can on this boat. I've been looking around for an owners manual with no luck. I've contacted Sea Ray and they replied"
Thank you for your inquiry regarding the 1976 Sea Ray. Unfortunately, information is very limited dating back this far. We do have copies of the original specification sheets that can be down loaded direct from our web site (www.searay.com) under the "Customer Service" section. While the original owners manual is not available there are manuals for this size boat starting with 1980. There may be slight differences, however the operation will be very similar and should be helpful." They responded quickly and tried to help but unfortunately they don't have it yet. (I'm very pleased with the customer service over there:thumbsup:) I'm hoping someone on the forum has a model like mine that could give me a copy of there's. It doesn't have to be the same exact year but the 80 model is a whole different generation. Perhaps anything from early to late 70's. As far as the functions and controls go, I would believe that all the different SRV 240's would be about the same for operating the stove, toilet, and controls. Thanks in advance for any information you may have and even if you don't have the manual, any information is appreciated. THANKS!!! :smt001

Welcome.

Not sure how much we can help but we do have a late 70's 240WE and a pre-83 260DA. Plus a small 19' '76. Not much written info but we've been using them a while.

That would be great! I received this boat after being parked for a long time. The previous owner never used it for anything other than a short cruise so he doesn't know much about anything other than putting gas in it and going for a ride. My intentions are to take it out and sleep for a weekend. I would like to know where the water tank is and see if it has a holding tank. I also don't know anything about the toilet, it has a pump on the side but I'm thinking it takes water in and out the side of the boat with no tank?? (I may be wrong but this is what I was told by someone else). It looks list the stove was run by alcohol but the lines are missing. I was wondering if others have converted to propane(Coleman) instead. Any information is appreciated!! I have a long way to go yet but I have to start somewhere. Thanks!

I have a 1978 SRV 240 that was my Dads. However I did not come across the owners manual. Just a manual for the motors. I would be glad to help you if I can with any question since I have mine all apart. It has twin 165's. Yours???

Well, I has the 888 outdrive but I think it's a 351 Ford motor that powers it. From what I have read online the 888 was an Alpha 1 with the 302 setup. I have not been able to look the motor numbers up just yet. The previous owner told me that it was a 351 so I'm unsure at this time. I will see if I can get some pictures and post up. Thanks!

I'm sure JC_weekender can help you out alot.

Regarding the propane:
The one thing you do need to watch with propane is that it is heavier than air and will settle in the bilge of a boat. A fire hazard. There has been alot of arguments found both ways on it's use but I think if you just use a little common sence propane is safe.

We have been suplementing use of our coleman stove for nights out as the alchohol is not working properly.
I am in the process of converting our alchohol stove to propane.
My plan is to use the small disposable bottles as a source. When not in use I will store them in a piece of PVC pipe vented through a drain plug in the side of the hull.
I also plan to ad a detection device.

In your case, think about doing like my brother JC_Weekender plans and store them in one of your aft coolers. The built in water drain will safely vent any possible propane leaks overboard.

Later Eh !

Alright, here it is. Don't laugh too hard at the custom enclosure. I have plans to change a lot of it. It was on the boat when I got it. Hideous, I know, but it will keep me dry. I'm really putting some thought into ways to make it look more like it belongs rather that a camper shell. ;-) New doors, glass, vinyl, & paint may help. The motor compartment is cleaner from the pressure washing the other day but it really caused a lot of surface rust to come on. It will need something like fluid film to slow it down for now. Any idea on the motor size from the pictures? Thanks!

Thanks for posting pics - definitely a project.
Whoever did the initial creative alterations appears to have only had functionality on their mind.
Like you said - it will at least keep you dry.

The "888" was powered by a FORD 302 V8.

Looks like you have a bit of work ahead of you - best of luck !!!!!!!!!!

Wow, that is one unique boat...

How long is a "long time"? Do you plan to keep all that or are you going to bring her back? Looks like you need to do a complete rewire anyway.

Stove - If the unit has a tank and a way to pump it up then you're pressurized and some think that that is dangerous too. At that age it will need to be rebuilt with new seals etc so your best bet may be to just buy a new drop in unit. You can go electric, or electric and non-pressurized alcohol or propane like KC Sundancer. Simpilist would be elctric and/or alcohol canisters that you fill with denatured alcohol and are not pressurized. I coverted our 260's pressurized to non-pressurized alcohol with a used unit off the internet and like it fine.

Water - Our '78 WE has the potable water tank under the galley counter next to the fridge. The '82 DA has it in the stern with the engine on the port side.

Head - Simplist would be the selfcontained unit. Effluent on bottom with flush water on top. The "button" pumps raw water into the bowl. Should have a cap to fill up. Effluent may have a hose to the deck saying sewage or something for pump out. Otherwise it is packed out and dumped. My brother, kybishop, just rebuilt the seals etc on his. Other units on bigger boats would have a holding tank or old ones may have a thruhull (illegal now to dump raw sewage in most everywhere I think). Most I've seen have the little portable units like for campers, etc. But then again, I've never seen a boat like yours...

The boat needs work but looks can be decieving. You can be amazed what wire ties and some patients can do. I have a few posts on my boat. A 1973 SRV 240. She is rough. For some time the project got shelved but is still there waiting for wrench time. Don't get frusterated when the job takes way longer than you figured it would. Stay with it and you will be happy with it.
Good luck
Oh The engine is Ford, But the pics make it unclear on 302 or 351. There are differences in how the exhaust bolts on. I don't remember off the top of my head the differences. Its been a while since I had the 302 I have working.

Anyone correct me if I'm wrong but from what I understood the 888 designation always used the 188 hp Ford 302. My father had that set-up in his old 24 cuddy.

Not knowing if the engine was ever changed or modified, see if you can pull stamped or cast numbers off the block. Any auto parts store should be able to identify the engine by them - or try googling them.

I'm just going to work on it here and there and try not to get discouraged. The electrical and mechanical I'm comfortable with doing. The structure seems alright but I haven't checked it thoroughly on the interior yet. As far as the cosmetics go......HELP!! JK

Take a look at my 1976 SRV240 weekender. I think yours may be a Sundancer. Mine has the OMC outdrive with the 351 ford engine. Click on my name and look at the pictures in my profile. I have the original OMC owners manual. I am not sure there was a manual for the boat.

you can look at the intake manifolds on the 302 and the 351 and be able to tell which one is the 302 or 351, the 351 will haave a wider deck which will have the wider intake manifold as where th 302 will have a more narrow intake

I would not want to dock that boat in a heavy crosswind!! Mine is tough enough with the flybridge. Best of luck though with the project.
