Any hot-rodders here?

I've been a car guy from California for many years and I've never ever heard of a street have a rating. Could be on $100,000 + street rod or a pre war Mercedes or like cars yes, but not a average street rod. At least what I'm familar with. Or maybe on tv shows they rate cars.

Jim, you are most likely correct on street rides. Local car clubs will have judging points for their local meets but nothing like the AACA would have. I've seen those guys count the dots in a square inch of paint in the trunk to make sure it met original spec for trunk area paint. Crazy stuff. :wow::wow:

Hot rodder here, I do not know much about the older street rods. You just have to keep in mind that at that price, body alignment and gaps better be perfect, correct trim pieces, finished edges with the upholstery and things like that. Ive got a 69 camaro BB 4 speed, the ol' mans gotta 70 chevelle SS396 that hes owned for over 38 years. Im building a newer mustang now because they are more replaceable if something should ever happen to it. I love cars and its nice to have a thread about it!!

I was a car fanatic before I got into boats a few years ago. My family has promoted a large show in Nashville for the past 15 years. To my surprise this year, the car that was "almost my first" was there!!!!!!!!!!!

1967 Olds 442 W30. Dad could have bought it in 1987 for $4500 but the motor was out. It had 34K original miles and the local it belonged to the local gas station's son. Tow bar hooks on the front, it spent most of it's time back and forth to Beach Bend Drag strip in Bowling Green, KY. Long story short, when the motor was finished, dad took a ride and said "no way"!!!! WAY TO FAST. Dad and I both agree now that this was the one that got away.

I asked tow owner if he'd sell and turns out he was the original owner that bought the car new (we would have bought from the 2nd owner in 1987). He tracked the car down and re-purchased and restored. Lot's of history with his family including bringing ALL his children home from the hospital after birth. Basically, he'll never sell and will always keep in the family.

As many of us have that "bucket list" or what we'd do if we won the lottery....well this is on my list. As the one that got away, it will always be my favorite car ever built and maybe someday I'll find another just like it.

I am a retired hot rodder in hot rod /street rod country. The value of the 36 coupe with the hemi is going to boil down to 2 things.......how bad a buyer wants it and the details.

The critical details are not shown in the photos. Is the paint just buffed or is is real show quality body work? What type of suspension is there and how well was the engineering done when the front end was grafted on? Is the chassis original or an engineered tube frame? Interior quality? Leather or vinyl? are the interior panel molded or cardboard?

Other issues for me are the overall quality of investment....much like it is with boats. If I'm going to drop that much money on a car, it has to be one with no market negatives. Potential negatives on the 36 are how badly the original body was butchered to fit the hemi into the engine compartment? The fact that is is a hemi may open the market to a few Mopar guys, but it will kill the interests of even more Ford purists. There are many of us out here who wouldn't consider that car because it has the old style, but a pretty hemi engine. Now, if the engine were a 406, 427 or 428 FE Ford, its a $50K car if the build quality is acceptable.

OldSkool--I've been to the Pebble Beach Concourse many times as have I been to Goodguys Pleasenton many times. There is a big diffence in giving a trophy to a street rod at any hot rod car show or giving the best in show at Pebble B C. Maybe that's not the case in Asheville. But lets all not forget this is a boating forum not a car forum.

That's great to see some auto enthusiests here. Most car guys like boats and vice versa I guess. This is my last frame up... 11 years ago... already (wow)!
It's a '59 Apache... a mixed bag of goodies... 406 sbc / T-350 / Ford 3.55 posi and a dodge torsion bar front end to finish the mix :smt101
It was a great ride!

A couple weeks after that pic I put polished aluminum tubing in place of the hoses... just used the rubber 90's and put a 6" tall K&N filter

These trucks never had inner fenders. Those are from a 79 regular box... I cut a 4" strip out of the middle of them and welded them back together. They looked factory and I could put a real tire in there ( 295 50/15). My dad wanted to help so he did the oak for me... nice job!

I burned the midnight oil and got it finished for a show in the morning. I got there late and pulled in... in the hot sun the truck reeked of fresh paint (cuz' it was still in parts in the booth a couple days before :)
I got best truck and a 'hosts pick' award... that felt good.

Anyways, I've decided to pass on the '36... we'll keep shopping for now.

For those who are interested; some construction pics...

Camaro tilt column and filling in some holes. I mounted the master cylinder under the floor so I could keep those cool pedals

Picture018.jpg

Boxing the frame, making engine / trans mounts, filling the firewall...

Picture016.jpg

There's the torsion bar clip roughed in...

Picture015.jpg

Interior assembly; you can just see the pedals modified, fuel lines done in 1/2", stereo under the seat, B&M shifter, that's a vega e-brake handle beside it on the floor... there's lots more but I probably shouldn't go on and on and on and on... lol

Cheers!

How about bikes? I'm more of a bike guy, just drive a plain-jane Chevy truck otherwise.

2004 Kawi Vulcan 2000: 125" / 110hp /140+ft.lbs. Here she is when I bought her Dec. '05.

And then after 3 winters of work. Did everything myself including the airbrushing, except for the additional chrome work I had done. There was a 3-page feature in last June's Roadbike and it was V-Twin's metric of the month.

Nice rides posted here. I love hot rods and muscle cars!

Here's my current ride; Dad and I did a frame off restoration all ourselves a long time ago. It's a 1966 Chevelle SS. I bought it without engine/trans, and now have a 355cid in it. However, I found a complete 396 big block a couple years ago which is sitll sitting on the engine stand, awaiting a rebuild. But I've been spending all my money on boating!

I've conceded your point. What else do you want? If winning a pissing contest will bring order to your world then then you win.
Have a nice day.

Does my Sea Ray count as a hot rod water car ??. It does 51.9mph at W.O.T by GPS. :smt001

Want to "talk boating" with fellow Sea Ray owners. Here ya go! Discuss everything here that doesn't fit into a category below.
Why is this useless thread in GENERAL BOATING.

It's quite simple... if it doesn't meet your criteria, or whatever, don't click on it.
This thread being useless is your opinion... my opinion is the thread is great and your reply is useless.

Nice to see you took the time to participate in it though...
