I was wondering if marinas are starting to cut prices.
The marina I am in just got bought tried to raise prices and I dont want too.
I think they should cut because they arent to full and with what I think is coming economically would make sense rather than being hardball.

Cut prices? They all just closed where I’m at. Check back in July :)

I’d imagine only if they have USCG or sheriff boats on-site, involved? Or commercial traffic?

My marina is still half empty from the 08-09 debacle. Still raised prices this year.

    Stee6043,

Just curious. Are they going to pro rate the fees since they are not going to open until July.

I’d be shocked if this lasts into July. And if it does we will have much, much bigger problems.

If they get boats in by Memorial Day it’s business as usual. Beyond that and it could get weird.

I know we have a few live ins and some giant 100 foot plus yachts but the mid sizes are not too full and now that they shut down spring breakers in Jax and the pandemic i just think they should cut prices.

I heard our Marina will be starting back to work at a limited capacity tomorrow.

I do expect marina’s to start offering discounts, especially for new slip holders.

Mine is raising pricing about 30-50/month. In addition, they are now charging visitors or members past quantity (2) to enter the facility. 8$ for up to 6 or so hours? I forget the exact amount. The marina claims folks complained about member parking being taken by guests? I think it's just a revenue generator. Many members are furious and are going elsewhere. It's by far the nicest marina on the lake, however, they are definitely getting a little out of hand from a pricing standpoint.

I'm wondering why marinas would be compelled to reduce rates solely due to the current Covid downturn? The # of boats and boaters has not been reduced based on a (so far) 4 week long crisis. I'd imagine the only thing to gain by reducing price would be to steal boaters away from other marinas? But that's no different than any other year.

What do you folks have in mind when you think marinas will actually reduce rates?

Demand for unnecessary items is going to plummet for a while. 3.3 million people just filed for unemployment. We’ll be lucky if this is only a 2 quarter recession.

    Email from this past Wednesday

We care deeply about the health, safety, and well-being of our Members and employees. With the ongoing developments around the 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19), we are being proactive with both our employees and operational procedures to help safeguard the health of our entire community. Public safety will always be our highest priority, therefore we have put into place the following precautions and restrictions so that we can safely navigate this challenging situation.

    1. Until further notice, the Marina office and Service Office will be closed to all foot traffic. We ask that all communication and business be conducted via phone, e-mail or mail. If absolutely necessary, we can meet you outside the office, but please know we will ask you to respect social distancing. Simply call the office while you are outside. If you have something to leave at the office, please utilize our dropbox, which will be checked frequently each day.
    2. The marina team will continue to work, but possibly with modified schedules, so if you need assistance, please phone the marina office. The following guidelines will need to be adhered to:
      1. If a Member wishes to visit their boat which is located inside a building, they are required to call the office in advance of coming to the property. Once finished visiting the boat, you are asked to call the office again to notify us that you have departed.
      2. In the interest of safety for both the member and technician, if a technician is working on the boat when you arrive (whether inside or out), we ask you to allow the technician to finish their task and to sanitize before you board your boat.
      3. If you are working on your boat, we ask that you be responsible and sanitize the boat to ensure it is safe for others before you leave.
    3. The Marina bathrooms are currently open and our team is working diligently to keep them clean and sanitized.
We are working hard to preserve Safe Harbor as a retreat, so please respect the property, our team, and your fellow members.

Oh I believed you. I just don’t understand how MR can be closed and 10 miles away JBW is open. Hope MacRays realizes it at some point.
