Any concerns updating iPad to iOS6? Mapping?

It is true that YouTube is no longer integrated within the OS, however you don't have to rely on safari. There is a YouTube app in the App Store. They haven't made a HD version yet for the iPad so you have to download the iPhone version on the pad for now, but it's better than nothing I guess, and the app performs reasonably well on the phone.

That may be true, but my phone is a blackberry. My iOS device is an iPAD 3. iPhone apps look really lame on an iPAD. I will access via Chrome rather than use the phone versions. I should have stuck with iOS 5 I guess.

Gotcha. I agree that the phone Apps are ugly on the pad. The app on my 4S looks and functions well. I'm optimistic that as big as YouTube is, they'll release am iPad version soon.

Wow, I'm glad I read this thread! I only have had the iPhone 4s for about a month, my wife has had hers for 2 weeks. I understand a little about what's going on as I read an article on the iPhone 5 recently. I only read that because I was pissed that I bought the 4s so close to the 5's release and didnt realize it was coming out so soon. I had read to expect it sometime in the fall but those reports always seem to be on the optimistic side.
Anyway, I guess Apple has cock blocked Google products because they didn't kiss the ring enough for the Apple Royalty! At least that was the gist of what I read. The reviews of the Apple maps were also not very flattering. That is why I didn't do the upgrade right away when it popped up on my phone the other day. I thought that ios6 was only going to be for the iPhone5 version. I haven't had great success with Apple upgrades in the past. It seemed that everytime I upgraded iTunes it damaged a small percentage of my songs that required me to delete them from the library.

No upgrade (downgrade?) for me thank you!

PS: This is my 3000th post!! Holy Cow!!!

I did the upgrade on both phones and both iPads and I haven't really seen any advantages so far. I don't use maps very often so I am unaffected by that fiasco. I do notice that my Sonos application struggles to stay connected to the WiFi which is a pain because I use that all day long - the connectivity used to be flawless. I downloaded the YouTube application and it works as well as the integrated version did.

The latest on the mapping saga... no GOOGLE app...

Google Maps vs. iPhone 5

Schmidt Says Service Unlikely to Return to Apple Device Soon; CEO Page 'Is Fine'

BY KENNETH MAXWELL

TOKYO—Google Inc.'s popular mapping application likely won't migrate to Apple Inc.'s iPhone 5 anytime soon, the Internet search giant's executive chairman Eric Schmidt said Tuesday.
But Mr. Schmidt, in Tokyo for the Japan launch of his company's Nexus 7 tablet computer, declined to rule out a future possible deal and said his company remains in regular contact with Apple on a range of issues. Google supplied Google Maps for the iPhone until the version that hit stores at the end of last week, racking up sales of five million in its first three days.

Apple is traveling down the road of arrogance just like Microsoft did. Funny how they never acknowledge the fact Android is outselling them 2-1. This new upgrade is a pain in the butt.

It is impossible for a hardware company to control content, it can be done for a time, but it will ultimately consume those that try. I think Apple may be biting off more than they can handle in TV. MM

Youtube is probably the most used app on my 3 yr olds ipad. The new software did get rid of the youtube app, but you can just go to youtube directly from safari and get the same experience. Unfortunately this is too much of a task fr a 3 yr old so it sucks they removed the app.

Google came out with a new Youtube app that is better than the original...http://itunes.apple.com/app/youtube/id544007664

The New York Times reports:

Google Working on Maps for iPhone and iPad

"People pining for a Google Maps app on their Apple devices will get one eventually, but likely not for another couple months or so"

"Google is developing a maps application for iPhone and iPad that it is seeking to finish by the end of the year"

A complication: "according to a person with knowledge of Google Maps: Google would likely prefer to release a maps app that includes 3-D imagery so it is comparable to Apple’s. But Google has 3-D images in Google Earth, which is a separate app with a separate code base from Google Maps, so it would take some time to combine the two."

I have an iPhone 4 and hit the "upgrade" button for iOS 6 and what a mistake. Just got back from PA and the maps are worse than crap... and it broke my paid for Navigon App.

I upgraded one of our servers to Mac OS Lion Server last year and that was a disaster for almost a year. I ended up having to buy a $5K service contract from Apple to fix their own bugs in the thing. It didn't become stable until 10.7.4 and I frequently would get from Apple support "You'll have to wait for our next release and see if that fixes the bug." Mountain Lion Server is really a bug fix for Lion... seems stable... they just are releasing products half baked for some reason.

Gary, I have the 4S and noticed no lag or slow down of my OS with the upgrade. However, my secretary has the 4 and the upgrade slowed her phone WAY down, almost like the new OS is too much for the processor in that phone. Have you noticed this with your 4?

My 4 is screaming fast. It sped it up considerably and the apps are more stable. My battery took a little hit though.

Must just be hers! Thanks.

I had an issue with my phone last year, real slow, unresponsive etc... I took it to the Genius bar and they ran a software diagnostics on it and found a bad something or other piece of software. they gave me instructions to restore it and it's been good ever since.
