Answering the same questions over and over and over.............

I do not like when the repeated question is the newbie’s #1 (and sometimes only) post :smt013

If we are not allowed to ask questions over again at some point everything will have been discussed. All we'll be able to do is log on, hear some crickets chirp, then go do something else. If you know of any good technical discussions then send me the link and I'll make it part of the technical archive.

i don't mind the repeats, it's all the off topic stuff you have to sift through, to get to a relevant reply, that gets old...

While we're here.....can you guys recommend a good portable generator?

Yeah.....And I was wondering if it is OK to put a portable generator in the bilge? :smt043

Dave, as you get older, you'll appreciate the repeat threads. They'll all be new again.

I am already "older" .............thank you.:smt043

this subject was already covered in a previous thread! Do a search next time!

Can someone explain to me how to do a search? :wow:

Sorry to all for my reposts of previously discussed matters. I believe the best ideas and solutions are forged in the fire of discussion and honed in further discussion. I recently asked a trailer tech about an issue I was trying to resolve, his response was unworkable but started a chain of thinking that led to a simple solution. It is my hope most of you want to continue to hone the practices of the interest we all love.

Haven't we already talked about this?

I think as new members join it's natural to ask about things that have already been discussed a ton. The search feature takes some getting use to and sometime never yields what they're looking for anyway or it's buried in other suggested topics.

It would be nice to copy, paste and store in our own personal files threads that we've either learned from or contributed to and name them to be recalled and shared again, but that's more of a full time job.

+1 Todd.

Sometimes there are fresher answers to old questions because, more recently, different members have had to solve those problems on their own

Let me just start by saying I mean no disrespect to anyone in this Club, but the topic of this thread reminds me of a business meeting I had a few years ago.
I am a custom metal fabricator and my father-in-law had hired me for a job, he also had an engineer on hand. One day these two were "discussing" the "right" way to build this certain section and they went on and on and on. Both seemed to believe there was only one way to do it, of course each thought their way was the only way. This went on for about 15 minutes. I finally stood up and said "I can't wait to be as smart as you two when I'm your age!" I promptly left the room and went into my shop and started building the part my way, imagine that... there was a third way! It was done and worked perfectly before these two were finished "discussing" how to do it the "right" way.
The moral of the story is that there is always more than one way to complete the task at hand. As I've said in a previous post I enjoy this site and forum for the fact there ends up being more than one opinion for resolution, in the end it's you who decides what is best for you and your application, options are great. Personnaly, I enjoy learning something new every day, it's one of the reasons I come to this site daily.
I would also like to thank all who have answered any of my questions. And special thanks to Club Sea Ray for being there when I needed you.

Dave's last birthday must have put him into the senior citizen years.

Great response Jim - Dave is just off of his medication......

Good point and great anecdote.

I too would like to thank all those who have responded to my posts.

The CSR community is a incredible resource and wealth of knowledge and experience; I feel privileged to be part of it.

BTW, I do find the Google search of CSR it the best way to find relevant information.

Before this thing gets blown out of proportion any more than it has been, I ask that you re-read my posting again starting with the title. The title says ANSWERING the same questions over and over.........it does not say ASKING the same questions over and over. In fact I acknowledge that asking the same questions will happen and that is OK.

This is what I said "Yes we can expect new folks to ask these questions (and I have no problem with that) but when the rest of us jump in knowing the subject has been discussed many times before and proceed to give the same answers again and again (I have been guilty of this in the past too) it just a bit too much in my opinion. I feel we would be better served just to tell the poster to refer to the previous post and even give them a link to a posting (yes I know it forces us to look it up) and ask them to use the search feature after that."

It is not hard to use the SEARCH feature even though SEARCH is far from perfect. Take the many threads on POLISH that have been created. Click on SEARCH...select Advanced Search.......Type in POLISH or POLISHING under keywords, then below that line change the reference to "Search Titles Only". I did that and here is what I got for POLISH . http://clubsearay.com/forum/search....log_searchinfo=1&photoplog_searchquery=polish

In several of those "POLISH" threads there is a lot of very usefull information so why not point the poster to them first rather than creating another potential lengthy posting on a subject matter that has been discussed many times before? That's all I was trying to say folks.

I respect the rights of each and every CSR member to ask questions and post answers. That's how many of us learned a lot of things about boating but for me personally I also appreciate it when someone can post links to other postings on the very same subject.
