Another eventfull haul from MA to FL done.

Jerry, Thats exctly how my 2 tires looked!!:smt013:smt013
Boat trailers are usually loaded to their max, so, if anything is weak, it is gonna show itself, like it did on yours.
That is one of his blown tires. Changing manufacturers may give a little longer life, but, I still think the combination is marginal. It is a heavy load, running fast on hot southern highways on small wheels and minimally rated tires. IMHO, the minimum that I would go with is 15" wheels and D rated tires. C rated tires are nothing but beefy passenger car tires. That's my opinion and I haven't had a blow out in 35 years, so, I'll stick with it

Where are you coming up with that information? C rated are 6ply, D rated are 8 ply. In an R14 D rated tires don't exist, at least by any of the major manufacturers that I've checked. These are all ST designated trailer tires so no one is endangering anyone here, it's just a matter of quality of product IMO. I just completed another haul from MA to FL this weekend. The GY Marathons are still holding up well.
FWIW, I think you'll find on most modern tires(if not all) that the correct term would be 6Ply Rated or 8ply Rated. It means the current C or D ratings would be equivalent to the old 6ply and 8 ply tire capacities. Your Carlisle D's aren't really 8 ply. My guess is more like 4ply tread, 2ply sidewall.

You mean like this?

Had 2 blow on me on my FW trailer all on the same trip with a 3rd showing a huge bubble. Limped to tire center and had 4 new denmans put on. I put some serious miles on those for 2 plus years with out one single flat.
