Another Erratic Tachometer Question

I have read the other threads and have not tried the moving the engine selection knob on the back of the Tach yet . Here's my real question -when the Tachometer goes erratic so does the engine sync gauge -so is this still a candidate for the move the engine selection knob back and fourth or do I have another problem?

I had a similar problem with mine. I switched to the Aetna tachs and never looked back. It solved the problem and we the best investment I have made so far for the boat.

I had a similar experience with an erratic tach and it turned out to be a bad ground wire.
